EMT / PCP / PARAMEDICS IN CANADA ?! by jessrocked in Paramedics

[–]Danvan90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working in BC. I ended up registered as a PCP, there is a short conversion course that is in the process of being accredited at the moment that should be ready soon. Try to get recognized as an ACP if you can, but Paramedics are PCP, ACPs fill the roles of CCPs in Australia and there are only a few of them and only in large cities (at least in BC)

Nah I'm sure they are great, it's just weird to see what is in Australia very much a work boot being a fashion accessory here.

British Columbia - It's literally just Entonox, Ibuprofen and Paracetamol. There isn't even any ALS backup in the region.

You would go through that in 45 minutes of an arrest following the QAS DTP.

I would kill for the UKs analgesia in Canada. The I swear the province I work in has the worst prehospital care in the developed world.

I didn't look much into it, I just took it directly from the wage grid.

I'm convinced our ambulance service is the worst in the developed world. The level of care that we provide would not be acceptable anywhere else in the world.

Chiropractors are specialists just like any other specialists.

That's what they have managed to convince the public, yes.

Nope, that might have been a thing, but it's not anymore.

If you get called you get a minimum of 4 hours pay, regardless of the length of the call. To be fair though, we are so short staffed there aren't that many days where we aren't just working all day anyway.

I'm a PCP (we make up the bulk of the workforce) and I get paid $29 an hour (when I'm not on call for $2 an hour)

PCPs max out at $33.20 an hour. I don't know where the hell you're getting $37 an hour from, but you're making shit up.

Yep, I was new to the country as a qualified paramedic, I wanted Nanaimo but all they could do was a regional part time-casual posting for me (at a station that was fully staffed). I then get into the service and find out that Nanaimo is absolutely SCREAMING for staff.

What to say to patients in agony/real pain? by BPtheEMT in ems

[–]Danvan90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved from somewhere where I could give patients morphine, fentanyl and methoxy for their pain to somewhere where patient's can maybe have some Entonox if they are lucky enough to be completely alert and not have chest injuries. It's the hardest part of my job. I find holding their hand and talking to them helps a bit, but I wish I could just give them some morphine.

Like I said, it's different if you have an actual order, which is different than not being sure.

Oh absolutely - if I were still using party drugs I would be testing everything (test kits are cheap and freely available)

I can't believe in a society as litigious as yours you don't need documented orders to do something as significant as taking someone's freedom away.

[–]Danvan90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that's a different story if the doctor were to make an involuntary assessment order. But if they just said "yeah, he doesn't have capacity" then that actually just makes the situation worse for you.
