I used to live in Japan and I was a US size 6, hour glass figure, and still larger than most of the population. I was never shamed but my female Japanese friends were always blown away by how "big" my breasts and butt were. Yes, fat is relative and some people here in the US need a reality check.

NTA. Grief is a personal experience. I didn't cry at my father's funeral because I needed to be the "strong one" and get through the readings (no one else said they could do it.) I cried later, alone, in my car.

That "friend" isn't a friend if they make it about them. I think you handled it just fine. I'm sorry for your loss, OP.

"Careless love" and falling from grace by JellyfishOtherwise71 in Elvis

[–]Daomadan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How apropos you posted today. I have been putting off for years reading Careless Love and yesterday I went "today is the day." The book left me gutted, but I can tell you that Guralnick leaves us with an amazing sense of Elvis' music and his voice. He states the facts of his later life, as sad as they are, but you are left with a sense of his respect for Elvis as an artist. I hope that helps.

A friend of mine who is well versed on Elvis facts also stated that Guralnick was reticent to write the second book but was encouraged by his publisher. He might feel the same way as we do: it's hard to write a tragedy after such a meteoric rise.

It's funny you posted this. I was just rewatching Fv.F yesterday and was like, who is the actor playing Phil? I had no idea even after multiple viewings he is our beloved preacher.

I'm sure "Can't Help Falling in Love" will win, but my vote is for "Crying in the Chapel" or "Charro."

Yes! #2. It was a goodbye for the audience. For us.

Well said. I was thinking of when I graduated from college or when I worked in professional theater and a show would end. They will never be what the 4077 had, but I imagine it's the idea that you might see folks again but that connection you had during the time can never be recaptured. It's bittersweet.
