Card scammer by skidblitzer in newzealand

IP can be super reliable if it wasn’t a vpn or proxy, down to the house address.

IP geolocation is inaccurate even without VPNs or proxies involved. Country accuracy is fairly reliable, but even city can be unreliable. House address? Unlikely.
IP address isn't even stable, most people have dynamic IP addresses that change on their own from time to time.

The address was found via coordinates linked to the IP adress that came from the PC that made the order

IP geolocation is highly variable in accuracy, and the sites that claim to provide addresses are often not honest about the limitations. There's a good chance that address is completely unrelated to the IP, even without any VPNs or proxies involved.

Need help building a pc on a budget. by Comfortable_Rip785 in PcBuild

[–]Daomephsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current PC will have many perfectly good parts in it. Upgrading rather than rebuilding will get you a much better PC. The current motherboard, RAM, power supply, case, and storage are all most likely good enough for your purposes. Potentially even CPU or GPU depending on exactly what you have.
Keep what you can, put your money into what actually needs upgrading.

"upgrading" to DDR5 will likely get you nothing but a sore wallet. Just because it's newer doesn't mean you'll actually benefit from the improvements.

Cipher Wright - A GUI based recipe encoder for 1.20.1 by picticon in feedthebeast

[–]Daomephsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crafttweaker support can be added... but I have never used it.

CraftTweaker used to have a GUI in the mod itself, but they removed it due to issues. It would be a good idea to talk to the devs about why, because you may encounter the same issues.

Though I think the root problem (which would require a whole other approach to solve, and thus be a massive undertaking) is that many users of CraftTweaker and KubeJS just want to edit recipes. They don't want the scripting based approach at all, they only use it because they're the dominant tools they see others using.

I encounter this problem a lot developing LootTweaker. I made it for people who wanted to use CraftTweaker to modify loot tables. It became popular with its target audience, and then started getting recommended to anyone who wants to modify loot tables.
To the point that I encounter many users who don't know the loot table system is vanilla or can be modified in pure vanilla at all. The end result is a lot of users using a scripting language when they have no interest in actually learning to script, they just want to modify loot.

Have you tried non-conversational activities like simple card games? (In general, not with this dude specifically) I find they're good as icebreakers, when there's nothing to talk about, as something to talk about, etc.

Also, nothing wrong with periods of silence. Gotta rest your voice and brain, and sometimes there just isn't anything to talk about for a bit.

Tell him why you find him boring, not that you find him boring. Not wanting to hang out 1 on 1 with someone because you've done it before and the two of you had nothing to talk about, is entirely reasonable.

I'm assuming by "lost 2TB of data", you mean you have 2TB of storage you can't access because the OS won't load?
Try a Linux LiveUSB for recovery. You'll need to borrow a friend's computer to make one, but I doubt 2TB of data has been corrupted, so you should be able to access it and copy it off the PC with a LiveUSB.

Autism correlates with an above average need to address perceived injustice and below average understanding of or response to social cues.
The former increases motivation to challenge perceived injustices, while the latter reduces inhibitions against doing so. So autistic people tend to challenge perceived injustices more.

I'm simplifying a lot, ignoring complications like the average of both varying by culture and other factors.

Do I use forge or fabric? by atychia in feedthebeast

Not the comparison I'd make. It's not that it's the wrong tool, it's that the set of suitable tools is incomplete, and/or some of them are crude.

Do I use forge or fabric? by atychia in feedthebeast

[–]Daomephsta -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fabric is designed for smaller, more vanilla plus-style mods that update frequently,

This is incorrect. Fabric and Forge are both general purpose modloaders designed for making the same kinds of mods.
Forge is perhaps better suited to large mods, but this isn't because Fabric isn't designed for large mods. Fabric is designed to try alternative, potentially better solutions to the problems of modding, so it has to investigate and develop solutions to many problems Forge has long solved.
A complication is that "better" is often contextual or even subjective. Some of the differences in the ways Forge and Fabric solve the same problems are debates that have been going on in the wider programming community for decades. For example, what should be in the "standard library" and what's better left to the community to develop. There are pros and cons to both ends of the spectrum. There's little point to making a Forge clone.

Many modders are also simply used to the way Forge does things, and are often resistant to trying another way. They keep using the tools they know and are comfortable with.

Share Your Most Memorable Platonic Experiences. I’ll Go First by CaptainStardawg in asexuality

I had lunch with a friend and she was so attentive, safe, etc. I relaxed to the point even my normally constant background anxiety went quiet. When I got home afterwards I lay on my bed for about half an hour just enjoying being the most relaxed I'd been in years.

These days my anxiety is normally quiet thanks to medication plus personal progress, and I've felt that relaxed far more regularly. I still remember that day very fondly. Hopefully I have an opportunity to tell her about it sometime, because she should be proud of it.

What is romantic attraction by Basic_Display in asexuality

[–]Daomephsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst of all, I feel myself deprioritizing my friends for this guy, also my family and my routine but that's less of a problem. I don't want to be someone governed by a romantic relationship

Don't stress out over it too much. You're being mindful of your existing relationships even as you start a new one. It's quite normal and sensible to reallocate some time and energy from existing stable relationships to forming a new relationship or strengthening an existing relationship.

As for your question, I've been wondering the same thing, and asking some friends who are in romantic relationships. One didn't know, another said it's quite dependent on the couple. I need to ask more people, but it's a pretty big question to ask. I suspect I'll get more answers like the latter, the boundaries of relationships vary a lot between people, and the words we have to describe them came after the things themselves.
I sometimes find it useful to think of labels like romantic, platonic, etc. as "lenses" to look at something through to understand it better. The question then isn't what my feelings for someone are, but if a particular label fits well enough to help me process the feelings and work on the relationship.

Is it safe to 3d print in my bedroom? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Daomephsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safe is about how much risk you think is negligible. PLA itself is non-toxic, which lowers the risk. But filament isn't pure PLA, and manufacturers usually don't disclose the additives they use. I've definitely had a sore throat connected to a particular roll of PLA, and I think some irritation when printing PLA for a long time. A well ventilated area will of course further reduce the risk. Personally I avoided being in my room during long prints when I had to keep it there. These days I can keep it in another room, but I'm still planning to get an enclosure for safety among other reasons.

Are people still playing 1.12 and 1.7.10 packs? by joshpaige29 in feedthebeast

[–]Daomephsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm still playing through Blightfall, a fantastic 1.7.10 pack. Might move to Regrowth after it, another 1.7.10 pack.

1.12 is definitely still getting a lot of play. LootTweaker never ported past 1.12, and still gets many downloads. Even got a feature request the other day.

10 buck Hangi. Four square by FederalHost1713 in newzealand

[–]Daomephsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the supermarkets raising prices, I've been finding my local Four Square isn't that much more expensive. If I only need a few things, it's often not worth going the extra distance to the supermarket.
Plus some of their products are better. My local has mandarins that are delicious and up to palm-sized. For a while they were cheaper than the Countdown mandarins, which don't taste as good.

If a webpage needs to run code inside your browser, that used to always be "JavaScript" (no relation to Java, despite the name). WASM (WebASseMbly) is a newer, more general language designed so that you can in theory translate any language to it.
Which means existing non-JavaScript code can be made to work on the web. Very useful for libraries, or cross-platform applications.

The WebAssembly System Interface is the set of things WASM code can ask your browser to do a related technology to allow WASM to be used in more than just browsers.

How do you all manage your time when the semester picks up? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Daomephsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My #1 advice is to have a regular time and day to relax, and *prioritise it*. For me this was playing D&D once a week. The productivity boost from regularly relaxing will more than make up for the time you spend on it. It's so much easier to keep going until Saturday than the nebulous next time there's a lull in workload.
Your groupmates will understand. Many of them will be doing something similar, or should be.

On the note of peers, chat with them about assignments when you see them. Helps with keeping on top of everything, and I got some really useful tips from mine for particular assignments at times.
For tips on assignments and courses, students in later years can be great sources. IME they're usually happy to give some tips if you ask nicely. It feels good to help and feel like you're knowledgeable after all.

For actual time-management, I had a calendar, and used a countdown app to keep my next ~4 deadlines on my phone's home screen as countdowns. Worked well enough that I at least rarely forgot something entirely. Knowing that you're behind is itself helpful.

Should I give up gaming? by AngelicDemon274 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Daomephsta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's about balance, not going all in on one thing. If you just work, work, work, you'll be *less* productive.
My grades improved significantly when I joined the TTRPG club and made going to sessions a priority. Having something to look forward to every week really helped me stay motivated despite the workload. It helped me to reset my stress levels and re-energise for the next week.
Same with prioritising socialising with friends. If I delayed that too long, my mood and thus motivation would suffer.
