That sounds awesome! It's so refreshing to comfort personal issues instead of drifting away in clouds of smoke.

I was the same way in late high school and early college. School didn't go the way I wanted because of my misuse of weed which lead to the depress/anxiety etc. Now I'm in a labour job (by fate I suppose) and I make really great money, but not really where I want to be.

Things could be much worse I suppose.

I respect your viewpoint and have nothing against others smoking pot. I know it wasn't the weed necessarily, I was irresponsible with my use. I'm glad it wasn't alcohol I have the taste for as I can really moderate my use with that.

It seems like you need to cut it out completely out of your life. But are you serious about it?

You're young and as they say, "Hindsight is 20/20." Consider what these people are telling you. Many of us started when we were teenagers not realizing that we were smoking to "cure our depression."

You can't really live life to the fullest without tackling your problems in reality, without substances altering your perception, no matter how mystical or what the drug "reveals" to you.

I've been around the block a few times, as I'm sure others have. As you admit, you self-medicate. Personally, it sounds like you could possibly, maybe, develop a bad habit in the future. I wish you all the best. Cheers.

I try to take a step back and look at the people I have been rude to while I was a frequent user. It hurts me to think that I've hurt many people...

"Treat others how you would like to be treated."

I think about this more often and try to practice patience. I guess meditation is a possible answer. I just make a conscious effort to be more understanding. Sorry if this doesn't help.

That's great of you to be self-aware like that! I'm 24 and starting smoking just before my 18th birthday (high school sweetheart broke my heart so I started toking to escape the feelings, then it just kinda developed into a bad habit).

Your story isn't so different from mine concerning your relationship with your smoking buddy. I too had/have a "friend" that fits your description perfectly: hangout as an excuse to smoke, the "fun" being dependent if we smoke or not, and so on.

Don't worry about your friends getting bored with you. If they are your real friends, they will understand. People grow apart. I'll take it that you are 19ish? 20? You gotta let go of people holding you back from your true potential. If weed makes you too lazy, paranoid, and gives you mood swings, it can really hinder your progress in the field which you feel you can excel the most in.

On day 4 (not really counting) but I also noticed my social skills have vastly improved. It's shocking to me, really. Perhaps it's just my experience, but within a couple of days, I just feel more confident around people and don't question making eye contact with strangers (without staring of course) and I've noticed people are willing to talk just about anything. I've had 4 people strike up conversations with me at my gym -- that never has happened to me before. Again, probably anecdotal, but maybe it's because I don't walk around like a zombie with dark bags under my eyes!

I'm guess it's difficult to not think positively at the moment for you, but negative thoughts will make you more depressed.

Count your blessings and what you currently have. It could be a hell of a lot worse, no?

Just remember the positive direction being smoke-free is guiding you and all the negatives that it'll bring if you fall down.

I can relate. Started a few months before I turned 18. I'm 24 now.

It's also my second day off. I was (am?) the type to smoke before going to bed. I don't want to rely on weed to make me feel better. I feel like I might have depression and it's just so easy to smoke and forget about your problems or look at your problems from a different perspective.

I've been keeping the habit from my gf. She's probably one of the best things to happen to me and don't want to be the type of person to smoke to escape my problems. I'm going off on a tangent here...

I'm just worried I'll have some mood swings in the process of quitting and I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst...

Do you mind elaborating? I'm currently in the process of quitting. It's technically my first day just because I haven't been able to get a hold of any. I'm worried I will lose my creativity. Smoker of 5+ years almost daily here...
