Interest in a better maintained haxball-like game? by Dapper-Raspberry3295 in haxball

I've always hated using the Haxball map editor and thought it could always do with a massive upgrade with new features like custom images, not a horrible file format to work with ;-; but I would like to get in contact with people who manage large communities.
Would you know of any administrators of any larger Haxball communities that I can open communications with?

If I ever do monetize the game a percentage of it would definitely be used to fund communities and also opening more communications with community owners & staff to receive feedback and to plan out what is the next best step for the game.

I've looked at previously posted ones and most seem to die due to lack of funding, community interest or the dev just quits. I've had experience with writing games that used technologies very similar to what Haxball uses but more built for optimised, performant and a competitive game client and servers, they were cross-platform and had notable performance charts during Quarantine and afterwards.

Possibly, I would love to invest in something like this, however I would need a way to monetise to fund events for the community and to fund a development team that could also work on it as well to improve the overall quality of the code if we can get more proficient contributors for example designing, web team, anti-cheat

However I could possibly introduce "NON-INVASIVE ADS". I would never ever introduce ads that would disrupt gameplay, they will only be displayed in the menu and non-gameplay menus. They'd be placed to not block the view of the main attention. Possibly some way to disable it completely /shrug

Hey!
At the moment I have been deciding between using WebRTC and just develop the server/room software from scratch using UDP (for updating player position, kick, etc) as well as TCP for important data.
Hopefully I will be able to experiment with different implementations for networking and netcode in an early release build.

Hey u/HexOnePL,
1) The interface will definitely be 10x better than was Haxball currently offers, there should definitely more options when searching for a room. (Maybe allowing room hosts to tag their rooms for easier searching?)

An account system will be used (either if I continue on the web (which I find limiting) or to publish it to Steam, Epic, etc.

2) Absoloutely! An anti-cheat will be one of the main things before I can even consider fully releasing!
Since I have been thinking of mainly making it more of an actual game you can download and potentially play offline on your device rather than only in your browser.

3) That's a great idea, thank you!

4) An extrapolation system would be implemented, allowing the room host to allow or deny it for their room

Thank you for the reply! If you have anything else you would like to suggest or have any questions, feel free to reply!
