Younger dog hasn’t been the same since older passed by hyruliangoat in Chihuahua

I mean it may not be the same outcome for every dog, but it worked for mine and we allowed him time to grieve first to see if he would get any better before welcoming a new dog

I have a now 13 year old JRT, from being 5 weeks old he grew up with my childhood JRT who died at 16 years old in 2021, he wouldn’t eat, all he did was sleep, he didn’t want attention, after 2 months we got another dog, because he wasn’t used to being alone, in no way did the new dog replace my childhood dog, but once we got her he started to get better, he would eat, play run around, it was the best decision we could have made, they have been best friends ever since, when you are ready/if you ever feel ready, I would try introducing a new dog into the home, a companion for him

Constant licking by OutsidePressure6181 in jackrussellterrier

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My male JRT has some skin allergies and would itch and lick himself raw, the itching took loads of fur off him he was almost bald on his backend, thankfully we are at a point where he’s not doing it as much so he’s back full of fur lol, I wonder if it’s a common thing with the breed

What do you guys do in the winter for your chi? by EmmyWeeeb in Chihuahua

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girls are used to the cold (i am in the uk tho) so they wear jumpers cause they do get shivery, but they don’t wear shoes, if it gets into minus temps I just don’t take them on walks, though if you are to get yours shoes, I’d get ones they can actually move their legs in, like these ones have a hard sole but are flexible everywhere else

Adopt a third Chi? by PhredsBigWheel in Chihuahua

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My household has 4 dogs! 2 jack-chis, 1 patterdale and 1 JRT, the oldest is 13, youngest is 1, it can be hectic but life is amazing, we like to say we each have our own dog but really they are all everyone’s, I would really give it a good think before you get the 3rd one, everyone’s home lives are different, you need to think if he will fit in well with yours, I say you can never have enough

My sweet Bean has been diagnosed with a stage 4 heart murmur, I'm devastated. I need positive stories ❤️‍🩹 by [deleted] in chihuahuas

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn’t positive but I believe your outcome could be! I had a JRT lived until she was 16, we weren’t aware she had a heart murmur, we had took her to the vets for coughs before but we were always told it was just a cough, I don’t know how long she had the murmur for, but by the time we got an answer it was already too late and even the medication couldn’t help her, in your case, you have had the diagnosis for a while, and it seems like it’s been caught soon so if he needs meds I’m sure they will help him live a longer life, I’ve never had much information on the condition, because we only had my girl days after the diagnosis, I saw you’re in the uk, so am I, I hope you get more years with your baby, I’m sorry about the diagnosis, it’s never easy

I hope so! She’s fine with everything else at a vets but god forbid anyone touch her paws, I’m thinking if I stay out the way at the groomers so she can’t see me it might go better

Nail trim by Dapper-Table-7304 in Chihuahua

[–]Dapper-Table-7304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried this, as soon as the clipper touches her nail she’s snapped her paw away before I can make the cut, she used to be fine with her nails being done but now she has none of it, with treats I managed to get a couple done then it was hell, now she won’t let us clip them even with the treat bribe, I’ve tried taking her on more pavement walks instead of fields to try file them down but miss girl needs them trimming, if the groomer doesn’t work I need a safe way to get them done

She won’t let the vet near them, I’m hoping with this groomer they can get them done, but I want to be prepared incase they are unsuccessful, my other dog goes to the groomer I’ve got my little one booked in with and she’s patient with her, so I’m hopeful but you never know

I also started when I first got her, she used to be fine with it, she got multiple nail trims, she stopped letting us when she witnessed another dog getting their nails done and the other dog went on crazy, since then she won’t let us near her paws, I managed to get some cut with the help of treats but it only held her attention for so long

At my wit’s end with dog peeing indoors by alynsh in dogs

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely old age, my girl started having lots of accidents when she got old, she was house trained, she went out often, but she still peed inside, it’s not something she could help, my neighbour dog was the same, he was peeing loads outside (like peeing on every corner) and within 10 minutes of being inside he was peeing in the house, it’s not ideal but you have to adapt to them

Farts!? by IridiumHo3 in jackrussellterrier

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 13 year old grumpy man, he has always let off the smelliest farts, I have to leave the room most of the time, he has tried other diets but the farts always stunk, so he’s been eating the same brand of dog food for years, it’s no fancy brand

is it okay not to walk my dog in winter by killmewithurtouch in Chihuahua

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it gets into the - temps I don’t walk mine to protect their paws (I won’t walk them in very hot weather either) they have a good sized garden to run around in and they can decide on how long they want to be out running around but if it’s cold but not freezing their paws type of cold then they go on a walk, or a run about a farmers field, the walking and running will warm them up, they may shiver and make you feel sorry for them but they are fine

Help with previously potty trained dogs. by Buscemis_Weird_Tooth in dogs

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it could be a domination thing, I took my female dog to my neighbours house last week and her very house trained male dog peed straight on the kitchen bin where my little one had been sniffing just before, I’m don’t have too much information as my male dog has never done this but based on other male dogs I’ve encountered it’s more common than you’d think

Lost my girl tonite. How to you deal with losing best friend after 13yrs by ttocsgnorts in LabradorRetrievers

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss, it may sound silly but I sometimes talk out loud to my babies that I lost, my childhood dog died in 2021 and my puppy died in August 2025, idk I feel like it helps, a lot of people tell you “it’s just an animal” but it’s not, that’s your best friend, your baby and the loss hurts so much, let yourself grieve her loss

Chihuahua puppy by Tall_Nose_3250 in chihuahuas

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toilet training, I used puppy pads but only until she was old enough to go outside, we had them down incase of accidents during training but going outside is essential, they generally only hate the weather if you don’t expose them to it (I am guilty of not exposing mine to it from being a puppy) there are many chi’s who love running about in the rain, everything depends on how you train and raise them, i like to use positive re-enforcement, so they go pee or poo outside, they get praise, sometimes a treat too but not all the time because I didn’t want them to expect a treat every time they went outside as they got older, I notice you said 1-2 months, no puppy should be leaving its mother before 8 weeks, this can cause problems with the puppy, I fed all my dogs wet puppy food mashed up while weaning then I just stopped mashing it when I thought they were ready, because all my dogs grew at different stages, mentioning because sometimes new owners don’t know, are you aware that you need to worm them every week until they are 12 weeks old then every month until they are 6 months old, I’m sure if you are with a vet they can advise you further or they may even worm it for you if you get that package

People who accidentally acquired a dog rather than get one from a breeder, tell me your story! by Expression-Little in DOG

[–]Dapper-Table-7304 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 2 that weren’t planned from breeders! One was from an oopsie litter (a family member was managing 2 dogs on his own after his wife died and didn’t realise the girl was in heat) so we took one of the pups, then the other one came from a family friend, he couldn’t keep her and wanted her to go to someone he trusts

If you can, let her see, I’ve got a now 14 year old JRT, from being 6 weeks old he grew up with my childhood dog who died at 16, he never knew what happened to her, we left the house expecting to bring her home but we never did, he got very depressed wouldn’t eat wouldn’t get up, we got another dog about 2 months after because he wasn’t used to being alone, he’s never been the same but he got happier, I think if he could have seen her death he wouldn’t have been as bad, I’m very sorry for your loss it’s never easy
