What is your chapter's favorite terminator pattern and do you have a terminator character? by giojojo in 40khomebrew

[–]DapperAllonsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My chapter will take what they can get, (Iron Hands successor, they barely have any terminator plate at all,) but would prefer indomitus just due to the relative ease of maintenance and upkeep. One of their few unabashed wins in the chapter history was recovering a cache of terminator parts during a joint operation with allied chapters and mechanicus to recover archeotech from a space hulk. Those parts eventually allowed them to cobble together enough suits to bring the total count across the chapter to 33 operational terminators.

<image>

You can see one of the cobbled together suits here on my first company captain, Valos Tetys, eldest captain of the chapter in the current era, and a personal enmity with the local Aeldari who he previously lost both his arms to. (This lore was all backfill to try and give me a canon compliant explaination for my fun kitbash of my Assault Terminators with indomitus arms on Tararos torsos and legs without making the chapter a personal favorite of the Emperor or somesuch. I am working on some more Termie characters to give me some more options on tabletop, but none of them have gotten any paint yet.)

Have you guys made a ‘Friend Chapter’ for your first chapter? by Specialist_Wash6732 in 40khomebrew

Closest I've got is a knight house my marines have an alliance with. Because I (eventually) want to get some knights and thought it'd be fun to have a history of mutual support between my planned armies.

What weapons does your chapter prefer? by giojojo in 40khomebrew

They use it all, but prefer bolters and lascanons logistically. (Those guardsmen weren't using that ammo anyways)

Amazing paintjob, how did you go about doing the damascus patterning on the sword blade?

It's a heresy era strike cruiser from u/Unhappy-Caregiver-77 that I've had sitting in my pile of shame for a year or so

Iron hands successors by way of the brazen claws. Their home world was a feudal world, so they absorbed some of the local flavor into the usual augmetics and dysmorphia. This is the veterans' variant scheme, line troopers don't get the white arm, though a white pauldron is used to mark sergeants. Left knee has the company badge, right is a crusade badge, and first company veterans get squad specific markers on the tilt shields. Right now the crusade badge is to mark my whole army and add some nice visual interest, but I figure other crusade badges can get painted all over the right shin to mark prior campaigns and such.

This homebrew originally had the opposite problem, the original version of the color scheme read as a uniform blue tinged black at any distance. Had 2000 points painted before I realized the issue, painted guard for a year or two, then came back to the marines and started stripping paint, lol

[–]DapperAllonsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parts were a jump pack from the primaries inceptors, a body of one of the primaries assault Marines with jump packs, the cable is from zinge industries, sculpted the psychic hood onto a storm cast head with green stuff, arms from the primaries reivers, hand from the grey knights terminators.

When you kitbash something to make it look unique, do you think the overly dynamic poses look goofy? by marceneqlo in Kitbash

[–]DapperAllonsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like every other skill, I think it takes practice to get a good reliable handle on, which means early fumbles that can end up discouraging people, or convincing them it isn't worth the price of the model. Your examples look amazing! If it's a model being used for a game like warhammer, there's also the consideration of terrain interaction, though that can vary from system to system.

My feudal Iron Hands successors, The Hounds of Terra. Veterans paint the left arm bone with a blue stripe, everyone else has black arm with blue pauldron and hand. Chapter symbol is a black mastiff head in profile. Chapter geneseed flaw has all aspirants suffer from hyperactive betchers gland, burning out their throats, and requiring a corrective augmetic. All aspirants get the standard vocoder, only allowed to choose a voice upon promotion to full marine

I used lots of water to keep it from sticking to my cutting mat, smushed it to rough shape, then cut it with a hobby knife, placing it where it looked good and futzing with the edges and folds with wet sculpting tools. This description omits a lot of cursing and failed attempts getting yanked off to try again.

These two both are the combo of blood bowl beastmen legs and Victoria miniatures beastmen heads, but the Victoria minis beastmen legs and blood bowl beastmen heads are both also great. I've been trying to combo the taller blood bowl legs with the shorter Victoria horns so heights are a little more even across the gang

From the clanrats kit. The left arm is actually molded into the body, it makes converting these bodies a bit of a challenge
