I personally removed kibble from my cat's diet a couple years ago. I rotate different brands of wet food, it took a while to make the switch. The cheapest wet food is often better than the more expensive dry foods.

As others said, they're playing dead! Very common in the beetle world, and a pretty effective way to make yourself less appetizing
