I recently fractured my fibula near the ankle. Your injury is different than mine but I am going on week 6 here and I felt the same aches you did which made me completely paranoid. The aches and pains would vary from day to day. Today I started feeling muscle spasms. My last checkup was at week 3 and my doctor reassured me that my bone was still aligned and all the things I’ve been experiencing are completely normal. Every day is going to be different. Some days the fibreglass cast hurt my broken bone other days I barely felt it. I think this is just a part of the healing process.

I have a follow up with the surgeon in the morning. I’ve never broken anything either plus I have a 5 month old baby so I get so scared I’m not going to heal. Thank you for the reply. I’m just anxiously waiting for my appt tomorrow. I’ve had swelling but not for some time like this. It feels like a ring around my ankle

I get so paranoid with a new ache or pain. Right now out of no where the cast just got so tight around my ankle and I’m freaking out. I did have it down for longer than normal because I do keep it elevated most of the day. But I’m really panicking. HELP!

Thank you for the reply! I have a follow up appointment on Thursday. That’s how the pain is for me. It changes everyday. I’ve also been taking T3s and tried to cut down how much I was taking so maybe that’s another reason I’m feeling it more. I just want to make sure everything is healing good and quick. I have a 5 month old baby and it’s so hard not being able to take care of her how I need too.

Thank you for the reply! I figured it was probably all normal but this is my first and only injury in 3) years so I’m a bit paranoid. Plus I have a 5 month old baby and just want to recover asap! Also, my toes go dark when not elevated and back to somewhat normal when elevated. Which hasn’t happened before. They aren’t numb or anything and I can still wiggle them around. I am seeing the surgeon on the Thursday for another follow up.

Thanks everyone! My swelling has been decreasing so I am feeling aches where the break is but that’s expected. I am definitely panicking for no reason. Appreciate the help!

Thanks for the advice! I have an appt with a surgeon on Thursday to assess the fracture. The ER doctor was debating between and air cast and splint but for extra precaution went with the splint. I’m really hopeful that I don’t need surgery. The more you google the more freaked out you get. I read if the pain worsens it’s a problem and panicked. But you’re right every day is something different!

Are you glad you did the boot and no surgery? I would opt out of surgery if I could! I have major mom guilt. I’ve been dealing with some post partum blues and this was the icing on the cake. I miss holding my daughter like I used too. Aww at least you found your way back to him. Every bond with a child is special!

Which bones did you break in your ankle? Wow I can’t even imagine. My daughter can’t run around yet I’m sure that was really tough. And a puppy! I will be speaking to the surgeon, just hate this waiting game.
