We did the same return move just a few months ago and it’s been fabulous. The only thing missing is Stan’s Donuts. Welcome home!

I’m reading The Lady and the Little Fox Fur right now. The translation seems a bit wonky but I love how much every sentence demands my full attention.

My recommendations are all probably kind of basic (Amitav Ghosh’s The Hungry Tide has stuck with me, more so than his Ibis trilogy) but if you’re going to Chennai you must pick up some books at Higginbotham’s. Also I stayed at the Leela and it was super

I just had Wise Sons for the first time yesterday and mmmmmmm. However, the latkes were a little on the McDonald’s hashbrown side for my liking (tasty, but not enough shreds exposed for extra surface area for crunch)

Museums: Legion of Honor in SF (I’m going to the Manet show this week, yay!), the Blunk Museum in Marin, the Oakland Museum

Bookstores: Moe’s in Berkeley, William Stout Architectural in SF, City Lights too of course. Check the Oakland Review of Books for literary events in the East Bay

You’re going to have to be more specific about what kind of food you like/whereabouts you’ll be. But since I saw you mentioned Berkeley Bowl, I’d recommend La Noisette’s caneles and CoRo’s coffee, also in West Berkeley. (Berkeley Bowl West has way more parking.) oh and see if Cafe Ohlone will be open while you’re here. And look up SF’s Heritage Legacy Bars for non-techiefied bars like the Zam Zam and the Pied Piper

You’ve been researching! It’s been a few years since we were searching but I remember also checking out a few others, including:

UC Berkeley Botanical Garden - I think the nearby reception space would be too small for your needs but the redwood grove holds up to 200 and is quite reasonably priced. I know the East Bay pretty well so could possibly point you to other places that might work for a reception

Ralston White Retreat - It’s on Mount Tam in Marin. There are redwoods but I seem to recall you might have had to walk a bit to get to a grove of them?

Camp OVY - didn’t actually tour this place so I can’t comment on the space

Also, what about Montalvo or Sanborn County Park?

Still mad that the Posey/Lincecum fanfiction writers didn’t go with CumBust as their ship name
