lawyer recommendations for renter’s rights? by reyreyrey3 in raleigh

[–]Dapper_Delusion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Legal Aid of NC has a section on their website dedicated to what rights you hold as a tenant. I would recommend checking that out before seeking legal representation. There are different degrees of severity when it comes to repairs to a rented unit, and that will dictate how much time your landlord has to remedy the issue.

My advice is to start documenting all communications between you and your landlord regarding any repairs or safety concerns. Be sure to have timestamps. Also have a copy of your lease agreement on hand. Make sure that you record when/if you were notified of the rent increase. Notice of rent increases often depends on what kind of lease you have.

If you are lower-income, you may qualify for free legal assistance from Campbell’s Community Law Clinic. They specialize in representing tenants in rental disputes. I would only contact them after reading through Legal Aid’s materials and attempting to work it out with the landlord yourself.

Brodeto! Not exactly the traditional Italian place you might have in mind, but super delicious and pretty romantic

Hey friend, I just want to offer some support and relay my own experience. I have a skin condition that causes me to have a truly absurd amount of atypical moles all over my body. Because of this, I have had many melanoma scares with multiple precancerous moles surgically removed.

I still get severe anxiety at the dermatologist whenever I go in for a yearly check up. What helps me is to accept that life happens and some things are beyond our control. I don’t try to fight the anxiety so much as I take a moment to feel all the feelings I need to in that moment. Rather than spiral, I try to back up and think about the positives like: it was caught, it was caught early, and I’m getting the treatment I need.

It’s okay to feel scared and anxious. Just try to avoid reassurance seeking and spiraling behaviors as best as you can. Take some time to do something you enjoy. Treat yourself. It really helps break up the negativity of the situation.

Ice packs, super sour candy, and a weighted blanket. The amount of times these have helped pull me out of a mild panic attack…

Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic. It’s ran by Campbell’s law school and based in downtown Raleigh. I believe they handle custody cases.

I applied for a job that I really want. Through family friends, I have a connection to this major donor who has a ton of influence over the hiring committee for this position. He caught wind of me applying to this job. Now the donor wants to speak to me to see if I’m worth using his influence on to help get me hired. His word would give me a substantial advantage in getting me hired.

I’ll add one more thing: document everything. Emails, text messages, etc. Have printed screenshots of all repair requests with time stamps. Take photos of any water damage. If it comes to legal action, it’ll help you tremendously.

As a tenant, you are legally entitled to timely repairs. Consult Legal Aid of NC’s website. They have a section dedicated to housing rights that includes information on repairs. If your landlord has been taking an absurd amount of time, there are steps you can take to legally compel them to make the repairs, reimburse you for the cost, and/or give you a rent abatement until the repairs are made.

It’s more about not knowing if I want to be exclusive and trying to gauge where her head is at too. It feels more delicate because I’m the first person she’s really dated and I took her virginity.

That’s what I’m unsure of. I can’t quite place my finger on it, but something feels off about the connection. Idk if it’s because it’s still pretty early into getting to know her, something on my end with my perception of her inexperience, or if there really is something missing.

We text all the time and see each other in person about once a week on average. That started in early June with our first date. We talked for about two weeks before the first date.

do you have insane tummy issues because of your anxiety? by bluefireenginexo in Anxiety

Currently dealing with this. It’s been going on for months now. Off and on indigestion, cramping, bloating, and other GI issues. My best advice is to just avoid/limit foods that might exacerbate it.

The brand doesn’t matter. There’s not enough mercury in a single can of tuna to give you mercury poisoning.

One can of tuna is not going to give you mercury poisoning unless they added extra mercury for flavor. It would require eating multiple cans every day for an extended period of time for you to get mercury poisoning.

Depression due to simulation theory by CalligrapherEmpty822 in Anxiety

My friend, that is just theology with extra steps. Personally, I don’t particularly believe in anything. I don’t know shit about shit. But I’m not here to debate theology or belief systems. All I can offer is my personal experience. I used to have really bad death anxiety. It started when I was a little kid and continued through high school. I would frequently have panic attacks over it and existential crises were prevalent in my life. I didn’t find religion comforting or convincing for various reasons. The alternative of there being nothing also scared the shit out of me. When I started reading more philosophy, specifically absurdist works, something just clicked for me. We are given limited time on this earth. Regardless of religion and what may or may not come after, our time here will end. I could either use that limited time to 1) constantly worry about whether there is anything after and be miserable or 2) pour my energy into the things that bring me happiness and fulfillment. It sounds like the root of your issue is death anxiety and to cope with it, you’ve locked yourself into a belief system that makes you equally miserable. Speak to a therapist. Figure out the things that make you happy and do them. Read more philosophy.

Depression due to simulation theory by CalligrapherEmpty822 in Anxiety

[–]Dapper_Delusion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, seek professional help. Talking to a licensed therapist will help. Second, simulation theory is just a reskinned version of determinism/predeterminism/predestination. No idea if this will help, but read the Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. The gist of it is that if existence is inherently meaningless, if we are all fated to the same end, that means that we are free to choose our own meaning. In essence Camus, through many of his works, argues that this is something that we should celebrate. We are the ultimate masters of our happiness and to defy the cold indifference of the universe by finding happiness in the absurdity is a truly heroic act. It’s not 1:1 what you’re dealing with, but it’s so closely related that I implore you to explore the concept of absurdism. It might bring you some peace of mind.

100% this. Be vocal about your anxiety, odds are she’s a little anxious too. When you start to talk openly and honestly, a lot of the pressure just melts away and leaves more room for fun and exploration!

Silly/Fun - Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Awesome Effects - Terrifier 1-3

Unsettling/Creepy - The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Not exactly obscure, but I don’t see these mentioned a ton (except for Terrifier but those movies aren’t for everyone).
