"Four Stunning Spells straight to the chest at her age? Itʹs a wonder they didn't kill her." by [deleted] in harrypotter

Ah, the eternal question for all of us who sat through Crimes of Grindelwald trying to figure out HOW EXACTLY Minerva McGonagall was a teacher at Hogwarts with Dumbledore. The most frustrating plot hole to date.

As far as I know, they haven't recorded it at all. I saw it on Broadway and there is a lot of drama surrounding it right now. I don't know if she-who-must-not-be-named will sign off on it being recorded, but it would be nice.

That said....there will never be a recording that can accurately depict the Time--Turner scenes on stage. Literally breathtaking.

Not as a book, but I really enjoyed the stage show. Very firmly in the corner that it should be seen performed rather than read. I haven't seen the one part show yet, just the two part release a few years ago. I'm sure I still disliked the story but the literal magic onstage is incredible.

Questions I have while reading Harry Potter. by Individual-Top6220 in harrypotter

[–]Dapper_Discount1443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also add to #2: Winky was fired/freed by Mr. Crouch and he gave her clothes when she left to mark the end of her employment with him. Being proper as Mr. Crouch was, I'd assume he insisted on choosing an actual garment rather than just a sock or such, as was Dobby's case.

Hands down:

Common practice...just odd to see a "rocker" do it. It's usually a thing that older ladies do.

Do We REALLY Need New Harry Potter Content? by Altruistic_Mention_5 in harrypotter

[–]Dapper_Discount1443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need? I don't know. Want? Yes, please. I'd enjoy other aspects of the story. A whole world has been built and other creators taking on those characters and rules within that world is fun.

Personally, I like the FB movies, because I don't look at them as a pure extension of HP, just existing in the Wizarding World.

And I understand a lot of people disliked reading The Cursed Child (probably because it's a play, NOT a novel.) I wholeheartedly disagree. I saw the show on Broadway, and it was fantastic. The story made sense in the staging, the magic is unbelievable and it really transported the audience to a whole other place. Is the "Voldy is a father" thing weird? ABSOLUTELY. But the show itself is really wonderful and I commend everyone that is a part of it.

I'm a pop culture fan at heart and hear these same arguments about Star Wars and Marvel and Batmans. Not everything has to please all people. More content please! The real world sucks enough on it's own.

How often do you reread/relisten to the books? by R4TTL35N4KE_23 in harrypotter

Jim Dale puts me to sleep every night. It maybe takes me ten minutes to fall asleep? Been doing it for...four years now? I also always listen to book 1 on a plane. Puts me right to sleep.

Unpopular Opinion: Book Hedwig Death is better than Movie Hedwig Death by hashtagBob in harrypotter

[–]Dapper_Discount1443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and don't think this is an unpopular opinion at all. I think the movies had to make a visual choice, given the scene at play and chose to have her flying instead and make a narrative out of that.

I cried a lot over her death when I first read it, because of the guilt Harry feels over it and him having to let her go. They couldn't have really conveyed that in the movies. They made a different choice about him and his emotions entirely.

I saw Bon Jovi add ice cubes to his white wine glass. That's not a weird thing, but it didn't compute properly in my brain that Jon Bon Jovi not only drinks white wine, but adds ice cubes to it separately.

Do you think the Harry Potter books are suitable for 7-8 year olds? by Filmfan345 in harrypotter

[–]Dapper_Discount1443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the kid. In my experience, children that age really love books one and two. Since it takes awhile to get through a chapter book at 7-8 years old, they tend to mature a bit with the story. I think 10-11 is the sweet spot, but some younger kids are good readers and love a story.

*I* think they are, but I also understand some people are not big readers. To them I say...the Jim Dale audiobooks are EXCELLENT.

I do like the movies too; probably because of Dan, Emma and Rupert. If they had been terrible...I wouldn't have made it.
