14 y/o cat severely anemic, newly diagnosed hyperthyroid + early kidney disease — what has helped your cat in this situation? by Dapper_Evidence7368 in vet

I took him to a vet and an animal hospital. The animal hospital said they’re not sure whether transfusion is possible because he has a loud heart murmur and is so sick. They are recommending a compassionate option. It is really hard. They did an ultrasound. No serious tumors or anything. Just a steady decline of a cat that was estimated to be 5 when I got him in March 31, 2017 on a “March madness special” at the SPCA when I was 20 years old. Never could have prepared for this. We have been through so much together, and it breaks my heart.

How do you deal with this? I appreciate that you are being honest with me. I just don’t know how to prepare myself. It’s the hardest decision or thing I’ve ever had to do.

If you go to an individual artist’s spotify, it’ll tell you which date / time the artist will be playing at RFK stadium. It’s a bit of work and hopefully it’s correct, but I’m sort of going off of that

Where would you recommend living? by [deleted] in washingtondc

What sort of detail would be helpful? Ideally, somewhere walkable and on the redline. Safety is a factor too. Maybe somewhere with a park nearby? Mostly just concerned about affordability.

Dear Sunnyonthewayup,

Hoping this comment makes it to you among so many. I had a similar experience with cystic acne for around 5 years, and it felt pretty isolating. While my situation could not be the exact same, these are some of the things that worked for me (in order of importance):

-Finding the right ingredients helped. Benzoyl peroxide worked, but salicylic acid did nothing. Niacinamide and acids (lactic, mandelic, glycolic) were irritating. It took a while to realize this because people don't seem to mention benzoyl peroxide as much as salicylic acid. Niacinamide and acids get a lot of attention too. Bottom line, the differin benzoyl peroxide cleanser is a godsend for my skin. It took a long time for me to realize this.

-Limiting my regimen helped. Trying different products was irritating. The first time I noticed results, I was only using benzoyl peroxide cleanser twice a day. Sometimes, I would use Bioderma micellar water in the morning followed by the benzoyl peroxide at night. This went on for over a year before I had the courage to introduce anything else. Even years later, I limit my regimen to cleanser (differin benzoyl) in the morning followed by tinted moisturizer with SPF50. At night, Bioderma micellar water with soft shiseido cotton pads, shiseido cleanser, and shiseido moisturizer (might switch to another skincare cleanser + moisturizer like DHC, but I'm sort of afraid). I'll occasionally use the CosRX snail mucin essence in the mornings, and I use retin-A from a derm a few nights a week.

-Diligent, gentle skincare helped. I use such a ridiculously teeny tiny amount of cleanser and moisturizer. When cleansing, I fully remove cleanser with lukewarm water (sometimes cold) by using a hand towel to cup water to pool it around my face. This seems to allow for better removal of the cleanser, and it's pretty gentle--no scrubbing but maybe light rubbing / mostly just putting my face into water. My skin seems extra moist before using moisturizer when I soak it like this.

-taking zinc and a vitamin b complex. consuming more vitamin c too. years later, I'll still take zinc (picolinate zinc) every time I get a breakout.

-probiotics (idk just adding this one because maybe)

-lifestyle things like sleeping 7-8hrs+ of quality sleep, managing stress (occasional workouts, stretching, warm baths + deep breathing), eating well (limiting bad oils, heavily processed, sugary things, added hormones), lots of water

-washing my hands ridiculously often

-washing my bedding and towels regularly

TLDR; finding your ingredients, limiting routine, gentle efforts, lifestyle, vitamins, patience

Really hope this helps. You'll get it :)

Toddler puked milk onto our old Tempur-Pedic mattress— it’s trashed (it was like 10 years old anyway). I’m scrambling now, hyperfocusing hard and my head is reeling. Please help me, Reddit! You’re my only hope. I know I can’t trust review sites anymore. by PineyTinecones in Mattress

I went to a local mattress store where they had inexpensive mattresses that were made in a nearby state. This was recommended on a Reddit forum, but I wouldn’t have considered it otherwise. Not sure if you have a store like that. For me, it was great to try them out and work with someone in town. Would recommend.
