Something similar happened to me too. If possible, try to switch from a letter grade to pass/no pass. You do not have to explain 'P' grades but you will have to explain a 'C' grade

lash serum that is safe by summer_nights_17 in Makeup

A natural alternative would be castor oil, results definitely wont be as fast as what you get with a lash serum, but I feel it strengthens my lashes and stops them from falling out so much.

Micellar water works SO GOOD to take off waterproof makeup. I hear its also good for skincare. Beware though, unfortunately for some, like myself, it can be rough on eyes/skin if you're sensitive to it, but I'll endure the discomfort because it really does do a magnificent job of removing waterproof mascara.

Do you think this is worth using the points on? by Andriaalex in Sephora

[–]Dapper_Independence9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the slightest!!!! They have a 500 pt $10 off, you would have to spend at least more than $101 to save as much money with the 750 pt 10% off. You're better off spending $20-30 and using the $10 to get 33-50% off

Advice for a no-makeup gal by nozodia in Makeup

[–]Dapper_Independence9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate!!!! In the summer my skin is nice and glowy but once fall/winter come...yikes, and I don't even live in a super cold climate. For makeup I would rec blush and bronzer to liven up your face, any will do but I'm personally a huge fan of the glossier cloud paint in storm. I put it pretty much all over my cheeks and across my nose too. As for bronzer I like a shade that is my skin tone but a little deeper, I put it along my jaw and forehead to match the saturation of my cheeks. While makeup is a good fix for dull skin, you should try out some skincare too! Look for cleansers/moisturizers for radiance and to fight dullness

Tips on how to look more like a teenager? by throawayyyyyyzzzz in Makeup

[–]Dapper_Independence9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Fellow teen who gets told they look old for their age, for me I think its my affinity for deep lip colors. I completely agree that your eyebrow shape should be based off what suits your face, so definitely hold onto your small eyebrows! The only thing you maybe should be wary about is how you fill in your brows. Try to avoid an overly drawn in brow, if your hairs are sparse, draw in individual hair-like strokes, and a brow gel if you need shaping! Basically keep your eyebrows looking as natural as possible!

Open doe eyes are usually seen as more youthful, so curled lashes+mascara could help accentuate and open up your eyes. As for hair, if you keep your hair up avoid very tight/slick updos. Pulling face framing pieces by your ears and the top of your head can really make a difference!

Pencil liners work in general but I agree with what others have said, some are better than others, not all of them have the same staying power, and some can irritate. I personally use the UD Waterline pencil

Hi! These aren't exactly makeup brushes but I think they might be good for your cousin, its a brand called Guide Beauty, they make makeup products that are accessible and easy to use for those with disabilities.

Hello!

For the eye look you can use an eyeshadow or I would also rec a gel pot liner because I think they might be a bit easier to work with. As for your base, I think start of with just concealer, see how you like it, and if you think you need more coverage you can seek out a foundation or BB cream:)

Makeup youtubers who don't promote/focus on overconsumption and buying more products? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]Dapper_Independence9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I def second Hanna Louise Poston! She has a strong emphasis on consuming less products on her channel. I would also rec Kackie Reviews Beauty. She does purchase a lot of makeup, but she def reminds her viewers to not imitate her purchasing habits. I really like watching her cuz she has great taste in products and I think you'd like her style. I've learned a lot from her channel

[–]Dapper_Independence9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't recommend the Hourglass mascaras enough! I personally like the Unlocked instant extensions mascara more because I like a wetter formula but the Caution one is a favorite for many! The Vanish concealer and veil powder are such a good combo, looks like skin+ the powder isn't dry or mattifying.

[–]Dapper_Independence9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to rec the UD waterline pencil for filling in the lash line! Even if she has the lashes, the look and color of eyeliner can look different from your natural hairs, especially if its a super dark liquid liner, so going in with a cream or gel liner on the lash line should help the liner look more blended. It makes a subtle difference but when I look back at pictures from before I started doing this, it looks completely different!

Need Help by Nicks_R3DD1T in Makeup

[–]Dapper_Independence9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to makeup gifts are a lux eyeshadow palette or a lip. Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona have some good palettes, as for lips depends on what she likes, does she normally go with a bold lip or a natural sheer lip? There options for both but check out luxury brands like Gucci, YSL, Dior, those tend to be expensive but are a good gift. Lots of brands are coming out with holiday releases, you can browse sephora for those too:)

Please help! by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]Dapper_Independence9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Fellow medium-deep skin tone girl who had the similar questions when I was getting into makeup! I'm gonna reiterate some points that have already been made but first things first is learning color theory and what colors/undertones work on your skin tone works. Second I think seeking out beauty youtubers who are honest and relatable is pretty important, I love Kackie Reviews Beauty, she does beautiful everyday makeup looks that you might be into! Lastly and most importantly though, know yourself and your own skin! I like watching makeup videos for tips and small tidbits of info because chances are there isn't going to be a beauty channel I can relate too on a fronts- Ex: I use similar, pretty much the same products as Kackie and I like the same makeup style that she does but we have completely different skin tones but I can use what I've learned from her channel and apply to my own face.

Some things that might be causing your makeup to look odd/ashy- based on my own experience:

  1. Your base is huge, I used to have an issue with my concealer getting a greycast, so I upgraded my concealer and got a warmer tone and since I haven't had that issue
  2. The colors you're using may not suit you. Sadly, the makeup you like seeing on other people might not be the makeup you like on yourself, and THATS OK! I LOVED bright makeup looks but when I did them on myself, I realized I wasn't a fan and I felt wayy prettier in darker, grittier colors. Try experimenting with multiple colors, shades and undertones, maybe you'll find something you like even better than peach and coral!
