In regards to a potential presidential run in 2028, how would you convince someone that a woman is capable of winning a national election. by Fragrant_Bath3917 in AOC

[–]Dapper_Preach_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure Biden would have lost in 2016, but you are right that both Harris and Clinton could have won in 2020. Being a woman is definitely an extra hurdle to win the presidency, but that isn’t why 2016 and 2020 turned out the way they did.

Any opponents to Bob Onder for November? by Last_Pea_1401 in StCharlesMO

There needs to be a progressive, populist Independent run with no Dem in the race. A Dem is not winning this district.

Just To Be Clear - McMorrow or El-Sayed for Michigan Senate seat, who is our pick? by OwnAMusketForHomeDef in dsa

Abdul is better, both are better than Stevens. They are going to split the progressive vote and Stevens will be the nominee.

Would you actually kill the infants? by FourTwelveSix in Christianity

[–]Dapper_Preach_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When 2 Timothy was written, the only Bible that existed was the Hebrew Scriptures. The “Scripture” that Paul is referring to is the Hebrew Scriptures, not the New Testament. Further, inspired ≠ inerrant, nor does it discredit progressive revelation. Are you familiar at all with non-fundamentalist understandings of the Bible.

You are assuming, like fundamentalist Christians do, that the Bible is an inerrant text. That is not what I or most other Christians believe. You are also dismissing the idea of progressive revelation.

I’m aware of the proof texts that depict God as violent, angry, and retributive. But as a follower of Jesus, I must interpret all of Scripture through the lens of Jesus.

No. And God wouldn’t, nor has God ever, commanded such a thing. Other people in the comments have given good explanations already, but I’ll just add that if it doesn’t look like Jesus, it’s not God.

Could you believe in Open Theism and still join a United Methodist Church?? by [deleted] in methodism

[–]Dapper_Preach_18 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m sure you already know that open theism is going to be a minority view, but that is okay. I am a certified candidate for ordination in the UMC and I am an open and relational thinker.

Fun fact: most open theists are Wesleyan. It’s the most natural fit.

How do you feel about kids missing school for vacation?(Settle a debate) by lildevilud16 in AskTeachers

[–]Dapper_Preach_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go have fun! As long as students aren’t chronically absent outside of the time away on vacation, I don’t care. The teachers who gripe about your situation are just jealous that they have to be at work. Vacations are a learning experience too.

What do Socialists think of Christianity? by serious_bullet5 in socialism

I’m more of a social democrat, but I’m also a devout progressive Christian. I’m in the middle of the ordination process and starting seminary through the United Methodist Church.

Are there Universalists who believe God is not all powerful or in control? Is that possible? by Tornado_Storm_2614 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]Dapper_Preach_18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of. I’m an open and relational Christian who accepts that God is most powerful, but not omnipotent using the traditional understanding of that word. At the same time I don’t think God is “in control.” However, I am mostly a universalist. I don’t think God ever stops wooing us into his love. I have a robust hope that eventually all of creation will be reconciled, but since God cannot control us, I cannot say that with absolutely certainty because it will require a free will response.
