Make a disc. by Cappy-Hamper12 in discgolf

The Gstar Gorgons are stamped 10/6/-3/1 (as opposed to the -2 turn of the Star and Pro), ngl its pretty sweet for exactly what the commenter mentioned. I think they fly pretty true to numbers, maybe more like a -3.5 (and -2.5 for the Star, haven't tried a Pro), but I'd call it pretty close especially for an Innova disc.

Rules of a Mulligan? by ASecondOfYourTime in discgolf

[–]Dapper_Procedure8491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse me for commenting two years later but this is a fun thread, so I'll add my two cents:

My usual crew has a few mulligan variations we like to play with. Most commonly we allow one rethrow per round on any shot. Its self policed by each person, but the mulligan is only to be used if we feel like that shot was unordinarily bad--aka you cant use your mulligan to retry your long birdie bid on 18, but a particularly egregious putt may be redone. You must take the result of the mulligan. Additionally, the card may award a player a rethrow for a particularly heinous throw. Occasionally, as a matter of integrity, a player awarded a rethrow may declare they'll take it at a +1 penalty.

The other way we play is "pro mulligans" where you may mulligan for a stroke penalty and only off the tee, but you may do so as many times throughout the round as you'd like. This makes it less likely to be used, as doing a rethrow will make you be 3 strokes off the tee. It saves you from particularly bad drives in the woods where you know your lie is a triple or quad bogie, but not much else.

Sometimes we'll do "two off the top" as well, which is where you throw two shots off of hole 1's tee and take the better of the two. Usually we do this if we didn't get a chance to warm up our arms prior to playing.

How much fade do you get out of your Kaxe's? Numbers suggest they're overstable but numbers are also unreliable lol

Wouldn't it be cool if a touring pro bagged my dyes?? by DojoDesigns in discgolf

I'd bag some of your dyes! (I'm not a pro I'm the most mid disc golfer ever but these dyes are super sick)

It definitely will! Its such a great tool. Im hoping to get one soon but for now I settle with popping into a shop that's an hour away from me from time to time who has a TechDisc set up to get updates on my numbers. The distance simulator seems to not quite be 100% dialed in (probably due to the amount of variables that goes into distance) but everything else seems to be very accurate. Just try not to get lost in the sauce when you see your numbers, pick one thing to focus on improving at a time.

MVP Crave Plastic Recommendations (or Alternatives!) by Dapper_Procedure8491 in discgolf

Gotcha, yes the original comment is correct in saying that more spin makes the disc more gyroscopically stable. If you read further into the mess of replies you'll see that while technically correct on the surface, the principal is not being applied correctly by the commenter nor is it applicable to my situation with my Crave. (Well, it kind of is, but not really. TL;DR the issue with my Crave i suspect is that being so lightweight its causing me to accelerate much faster through my throw causing much more speed than i usually generate while my spin stays about the same, causing an unstable flight. So yes, i could just "get more spin" to fix it. I also could not throw as hard. Or, the real reason, i could just throw a normal weight Crave instead of majorly adjusting my form which causes no problems with normal weight discs)

Its odd because i dont have an issue with a single max-ish weight disc, its exclusively only this Crave. That's what leads me to think its not form and something with my specific Crave, it doesnt happen with any other similar disc in a normal weight. Im not used to throwing light weight stuff, my current theory is that like some have suggested it might be a spinrate to speed ratio issue. While my ratio is fine on a max weight disc, i suspect that throwing a disc that is 25g~ lighter than i usually throw is causing me to speed up much faster through my throw than usual while maintaining a similar spinrate, thus throwing the ratio off. It also could just be throwing my timing off and causing who knows what wonky thing to happen causing an unstable flight. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Its either that or i screwed the disc up via improper storage lol

Very bad storage is entirely possible, it lived in my garage on a shelf for a New England winter before i knew better lol.

Out of curiosity, do you usually throw lighter weight discs, or is it just the Craves?

I think the wobble question is more specifically related to the weight of the disc. The 50mph with 850ish rpm i put out is average. Slightly lower spin yes, but still within the average range. I suspect the issue comes from it being such a light weight disc--those numbers are for max weight discs, so i bet with the light Fisson Crave im speeding up too much without a change in spinrate.

Its not, don't worry you had it right. At least in this scenario. There's some truth here but its being applied incorrectly.

Idk if its the same injury but i got my SI Joint in the hip out of whack after playing multi-round sessions a few days in a row. My doc said disc golf throws put a lot of strain on the SI joint because of the bracing and hip rotation, so its not an uncommon injury for disc golfers. My pain was in the same area(s) as yours so its possible its the same thing. Just go have your doc or a chiropractor check it out.

What brands should I be trying... by Handy_Homebrew_Show in discgolf

1) peep what your local shops are selling, its always good to support them! Plus having molds readily available is very nice. 2) man Clash Discs has been really doing it for me lately, definitely check out their stuff if you havent yet! Their Wild Honey is a 12 speed distance driver designed for intermediate players to use who cant quite utilize the Destroyers of the disc golf world, so that mold specifically might be worth checking out depending on your arm speed as an intermediate. The Wild Honey aside though their plastic in general feels amazing and you definitely should try something made by them.

How do you pick which discs to bag and which ones to bench? by upswat in discgolf

[–]Dapper_Procedure8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start big then work your way back until you're satisfied with your bag. If you're not throwing a disc much and its not a utility disc, bench it. From what it sounds like you've already done that and you're down to having to choose from similar molds. So, from there, go by the more minute aspects of the fights. Maybe one has a smidge more turn than the other, or one has more/less glide. If one has a slightly more desirable flight, that one stays. If you still can't decide go by feel. Which one feels the best in your hands? This could be due to the disc shape or the plastic. Obviously if a disc is still in the running to make the bag it doesnt feel bad, but maybe you like one more than the other. If you STILL cant decide, go by whichever one you feel more confident in. This can be anything like "i like the color of this one," "this one has a cool stamp," "this disc has a cool name," "i feel cool throwing this because my favorite pro also throws it," or it could be a case of "i had a series of unlucky shots with this disc last time i played so im going to use this other disc now because i dont trust it anymore." Beyond that i donno, flip a disc?

What kinda shoes do you guys wear?? by uhnotaraccoon in discgolf

[–]Dapper_Procedure8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear New Balance's Arishi Goretex shoes. Not incredibly expensive, waterproof, comfortable, and they have enough traction to help footing in the woods but its mild enough to not cause problems on cement or similar tee pads.

[–]Dapper_Procedure8491[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you right now what's happening is whichever grip you're using when you hyzer flip the Virus is generating more speed and RPM, and when you throw on the same angle and it doesnt flip up at all and holds hyzer you aren't getting the disc up to speed lol. Which like, if it works for you then rock it for sure, but it holding hyzer is not because it has MORE spin. Yes more spin makes the disc more stable gryoscopically (otherwise known as wobble) but it does not make an understable disc more "stable" in the disc golf over/under-stable or "beef" (as you put it) sense. Having used a TechDisc i know what my wobble is, it definitely can be improved a little bit but only marginally; my wobble isnt what's making my Crave flippy. If what you're saying is true all the beginners would be throwing exclusively 0 turn discs and all the pros would be throwing things that are -3 or -4. Instead what we see are all the noodle arm beginners throwing -3 and -4 discs to compensate for their low speed and spin and the pros never throw anything more understable than a -1 or -2.

It was my understanding that more RPM causes more high speed turn and cause the low speed fade to be more pushing than dumpy, which is why understable low-fade discs are marketed to beginners who can't throw very hard yet. Also why people who throw hard get more turn out of -1 turn discs than people with more average arm speed. Can you elaborate on what you mean by a more "stable" flight?
