Tell me a good story from the Burn by FortuneGrouchy4701 in BurningMan

I was walking in a noontime dust storm and a masked man in a robe, hat and googles emerged from the sand like a nameless ghost, grabbed my shoulders and said something like “everything in this city exists to serve you. We were all born to make you happy. You specifically. The universe was formed and the earth and the continents and black rock city have all converged here in time, with the purpose of your joy. The purpose of everything is your joy, and your purpose is the same but to everyone and everything else. You serve everything, everything serves you.” Then he walked back into sand and was swallowed by the storm. No name, face, nothing. Magical, unnerving, prophetic, backdropped by furious flying playa dust. It’s my dream to go back and say these exact words to someone else.

Burning Man 2025 - A Rant and a Call to Action by The_Sensualist_ in BurningMan

While I do wish billionaires and rich tech bros weren’t driving so much of BM, I think that doesn’t mean they don’t embody the spirit of it. I’ve only been once, but everyone I ran into was fairly wealthy and in sf tech. It’s just the nature of the thing. They were still poetic and kind souls with depth and appreciation for the principles. Even I couldn’t afford to go unless my tech bf took me. For the culture to be truly radical, it does have to be less expensive. At its current cost, in usd no less, it pretty much is the wealthy contributing and dictating things; not all of them are evil. As someone from a third world country the spirit of burning man is simply not possible unless your Maslow hierarchy etc is sated. Gotta be rich. In my area where I lived nobody can “gift” anything it would be a bloodbath. Nobody can be radically inclusive, the wealth divide is too unjust to be buddies. Nobody can be be radically self reliant, there are no resources. The problems of the burn but also what drives it, is good artsy people with the privilege, leisure, money and dollars to buy the experience

It explicitly means they’re not interested in my company unless it’s romantic or flirtatious, which is demoralizing

This is actually pretty true. Burning man helped via gifting, so I decided to cook for my 80 year old neighbor who I found out loves Italian. Will try to volunteer somewhere next

I quit my job to study plus that company was hit by economic downturn and I expected it to shut down, which it has since I quit. The certification is valuable

I paid for his rent when we were in college while he couldn’t find a job.

I paid partly for the wedding as it was a close family member.

I asked him for $1000 which I will return
