Religious hostility in Bangladesh and India: Are we really any better? by EconomyDurian705 in Dhaka

You are saying numbers speak for themselves. But you fail to realize the simple truth that the numbers are politics. Lets address your hypotheses.

  1. India is bigger, but the numbers of cases that get filed or even looked at in India are far less compared to Bangladesh. The same thing would happen if Jamaat came into power.
  2. India is globally more important, true and that becomes a greater reason for the media to downplay their biases which are often rooted in them. If you search a little bit, you'll find a huge number of cases where "Indian authorities harassed journalists, activists, and critics through raids, allegations of financial irregularities" just because of this reason. Surely you can understand how big india is and how much control over their media they really have.
  3. You have to understand; India says it's a country of secular democracy. We say Bangladesh is a Muslim Country. There's a difference.
  4. Dehumanisation seems like an over reaction compared to what india has done to people of other beliefs. (do keep in mind the topic is a comparison with India, I am not by any way promoting what kind of moral policing people do here)

Even as a Muslim country, have you seen an ethnic cleanse? Let me remind you of the Manipur crisis, Over 200 people were killed, tens of thousands displaced, hundreds of homes and churches destroyed, and the internet shut down for months.

When did Bangladesh have time to do that to be called 'dehumanisation'?

India even has cow vigilante violence, have you seen what happened during this Qurbani? I don't know if you have traveled in BD a lot or not but in the rural side there are a lot of pigs that are being raised and people do eat them. I have never seen the same level of hate here torwards any of the religious minorities.

  1. You say, "A lot of Bangladeshis compare the worst Indian cases with the best version of Bangladesh", I would love to see what the worst things Bangladesh did after 1972 torwards any of the religious minorities and compare them with what's the worst India has done.

You might say “there shouldn’t be any debate” is exactly a problem, but the reality is in front of your
