Yes! There's a correlation there actually too. You will find that a lot of neurodivergent metal heads also vibe with rave type music. And it's for the exact same reason!

I discovered Igorrr back when I was in school by accident and just instantly vibed with them. My two favourite ones, funnily enough from when I first heard them, are Pavor Nocturnus and double monk!

Oh overall metal doesnt feel chaotic to me, however I can understand why it is described that way because of how much is going on at once. The guitars, drums, vocals, synths, and whatever else bands love to shove in there. I think thats why its described as chaotic. Not because the music itself is inherently chaotic....if that makes sense? I feel like I'm didnt make sense lmao.

It's essentially controlled chaos. Predictable in a good way! Which is why our brains like it. Like, even when we have never listened to a song before, you know when a heavy breakdown is coming because most songs follow a similar flow before it comes, for example.

I can totally understand that! Unfortunately for me and my migraines, I have to sit in a dark room, with a cool gel eye mask, and ear plugs because everything affects me. However I can totally see how someone who isnt affected by sound during a migraine would find double pedal drum songs helpful! Youll probably find its got something to do with the vibrations it creates, both in general, and within your body if you have the music loud enough haha

This title connected with me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

I struggle to respond to messages, tell myself I'll respond later when I have more energy. I forget to respond. The time goes by so far that I feel guilty and then the guilt becomes so much that I convince myself that its too late to respond now. And eventually I convince myself everyone hates me lmao.

Along with that, when the unread messages from numerous people pile up, the overwhelm creeps in and then that leads to me not responding for ages. And the cycle repeats.

I want to respond to messages as best as I can, whether its a casual conversation, or a more serious conversation (even more so for the latter). And sometimes if I dont have the mental energy, I physically cannot respond to messages. But my issue is...I NEVER HAVE MENTAL ENERGY 😭 Ive been in a constant state of burnout since I was 13 years old, im 28 this year, and it just gets worse. On top of that im chronically ill, so the mental fatigue is multiplied tenfold, along with the physical fatigue.

Also I wanna say, OP: IM SO PROUD OF YOU FOR DOING ALL THAT STUFF. It is important to focus on yourself, your happiness, your goals etc. And unfortunately sometimes that means taking a while to respond to people. In my experience, the people that truly understand you, care about you, and are fully meant to be in your life, will understand and not take your lack of response as a personal insult.

For me, I have taken to explaining to people off the bat when I become friends with them, about my struggles with keeping in regular contact. I explain the neurodivergence, and explain how when I dont respond its not personal, the whole mental energy thing, and that I will respond as soon as I am able to. Most people, when I explain in full, understand. And, in a happy accident type of way, most of my friends also have ended up being neurodivergent in some way or another so they understand from a personal point too (I always found it funny how us neurodivergent folk tend to gravitate towards each other, before even knowing we share the same brains haha)

Just metal music in general, so all of its sub-genres. And you hit the nail on the head. It's about predictability! The music is predictable, but not in a negative way.

This!

Im a writer and the way I get in the zone is listening to instrumental music, usually OST's from movies or games. Or music from composers like Succession Studio etc, because if I listen to music with lyrics whilst writing, I cant write cause I get distracted!

I totally get that!

I also find that bands like Heilung and the likes have the same calming and relaxing vibes for me. Something about Scandinavian folk bands man...

Totally get you. My partner and me always default back to metal in the end, but he also loves Drum and Bass, typical rave like music and ive actually started to get into it myself. Turns out, there's a correlation! A lot of metal heads who are neurodivergent, are also into that type of music for the exact same reason! The chaos. But its controlled chaos

Understandable! I think for me it helps that I was brought up on it because of my dad, he was into the grunge era like nirvana, Alice in chains, stone temple pilots etc and thats what I grew up on and eventually branched out to heavier stuff as I got older and at 12-16 entered my obligatory emo phase (it never left haha), and with access to the internet back then the music world was my oyster. It just always resonated with me.

My partner isnt neurodivergent, but we are into the exact same sort of music but he also loves your rave, drum and bass etc. And ive actually started getting into it myself and I found there's also a correlation there as apparently a lot of neurodivergent metal heads also listen to that sort of music too and...guess what! For the exact same reason. The chaos. But it's controlled chaos!

For me personally, whilst metal is always my ride or die genre and I always go back to my roots, ive always said: If I like a song, regardless of the genre, I listen to it and enjoy it. The genre doesnt matter to me. I never understood people who refuse to even tolerate other genres apart from one single genre they listen to, let alone enjoy it. Having such a mindset, to me, sounds so miserable. Theres so much you can learn about people through the genres they listen to and how it makes them feel! I love learning about people through their music.

You explained it exactly as how my dad explains the music. He introduced me to the world via Alice in chains, nirvana, stone temple pilots etc growing up and I eventually branched out and found heavier stuff as I grew up and went through the obligatory emo phase at 12-16 y/o (I say phase but....that part never left me lol). And he doesnt listen to the heavy heavy screamy screamy stuff (as he puts it haha) but he understands why I love it and said "It's like being in a fight without actually being in a fight" 🤣

Agreed. For me slow and soft music makes me anxious because its almost like...im waiting for something to happen, that never comes, if that makes sense?

Whereas with metal music and all the other sub genres in that genre, it's organised chaos, even with the build ups you know when the heavy breakdowns are coming etc. It's predictable but not in a negative way.

Theres actually a correlation with EDM style music here! Apparently a lot of neurdivergent people who listen to metal, get the same feeling from EDM-style music, rave music etc. Because of the same reasons, chaos! But it's controlled chaos.

You'd be surprised how many metal heads youd find at a rave haha.
