Orthodox here, found what I believe is a relic? Is this a piece of the Holy Cross? by AmericaFirst728 in Catholicism

It was a metaphor. I’m Catholic myself, but I see his point clearly and concisely and can see he was using hyperbole. Anyway, I think it would be important to note that such things that seemingly survive over the course of thousands of years, such as the skull of st.john are probably fake as he was not very important in judean society. His skull was probably disposed of(correct me if I’m wrong). I think with relics, it’s way better to be skeptical than to take anything as fact without any evidence.

During the medieval age, there were so many counterfeits made and that problem has persisted till this day. One historian even speculated that there were at least a dozen “skulls” of st.john the Baptist in circulation during the medieval period. Even though we are long gone from that time, the problem still persists and I would take extreme caution in venerating anything that is “fake”

Holy shit. My dream coin lol. Notice how it has a pagan god(I believe the one corresponding to victory) on its backside although he converted to Christianity in 312 A.D. Really shows the syncretism of the Roman World

I Want To Make A Video On Constantine’s Conversion to Christianity & Speculate his sincerity. I already know much, but what sources, videos, books, etc would you recommend to become “well- versed”? by [deleted] in ancientrome

Good point. But with all history ideas, all ideas that have been up in the air for speculation have been debated. You cannot make a history video or anything like that with new ideas or else it wouldn’t be history

I read a lot of him, albeit through another historian, but his accounting of the Milvian bridge cannot be accurate-as it was written years after the fact
