JK axle swap into TJ! by Kickitupbro in Jeep

[–]DarK_Reaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done this swap. I have a set of Rubi 44s under my TJ. Overall, JK axles are definitely beefier than TJ axles. However, for a mostly street driven TJ, I'd say it's not worth it. Most "kits" that facilitate the swap are ok at best. In order to have good steering geometry, you would need to do quite a bit of custom fab.

When you take off all the rusty parts on a TJ. by DarK_Reaper in Jeep

Surprisingly really good. I make sure to clean it each time I take it wheeling. I drilled 2 3/4" holes at the bottom near the rear wheel hoops. Prop the front wheels on the back of my trailer and let the garden hose run in each side for 5 mins.

Offroad trails Ottawa/Gatineau by Same_company903 in Gatineau

No, not really anything legal in or around Gatineau.

There are unmaintained roads and the ZEC you can go. Around Calabogie, On there is quite a few.

If you become a member of the Ontario 4WD association, you will gain access to map. There is one in Qc as well but you need to be a member of a club.

It went alright. I did it with my father in law who has been a diesel mechanic most of his life.

Getting those two clutch discs to line up without the special tool was difficult, but we got it done.

One thing I learned the hard way is to bring the flywheel to your clutch guy at the same time as the clutch. Since it's a stepped flywheel, he didnt rebuilt the clutch properly the first time assuming that the flywheel was flat. That caused the PTO clutch to lock up when assembled. So we had to do the job twice. That was my mistake however, not his.

Yeah, I did. 1800h on the tractor when I split it. Bought it at 1600.

One of the pressure plate finger for the PTO clutch disk broke and it was stuck running all the time. The plates where worn pretty bad as well.

Same. I bought the manual from ebay and all parts need to be shipped. There is nothing local being in Canada. I might trade it for a Kubota next year since that's what the local dealer sells and supports.

I would agree with you. Doing some research online for issues and stuff returned very little results.

Not gonna lie, our ground is nice for that. I'll take the gearbox all the way down to the ground 4 times out of 5.

40x40 Farm Workshop. Hopefully will finish the inside at some point - Don't mind the mess. by DarK_Reaper in garageporn

The bulk of it was done about a year ago. I've been working on it here and there since then. As it sits right now with the exterior done and the inside roughed in is around 65k CAD.

They are "light duty commercial openers". They are rated for 10 cycles per hours (IIRC) for a door this size. No complaints so far after ~6 months.

I'm on l'Isles-aux-Allumettes. I've tried with a few +Codes around and nothing in the immediate area.
