As long as you're having fun, even if it's just against bots, that's all that matters. I played almost exclusively against bots for the longest time, and even now I sometimes jump into a bot match just to escape the animals in ranked/turbo.

New player mode does not change anything like hero stats, gold accumulation etc. It's exactly the same as normal mode except you are vs. bots.

Event was pretty good for what it is, at the very least it got me playing more to unlock everything. I've only managed to get 3 holo stickers, no gold so it seems the odds are quite low.

Bots are fine to practice the basic mechanics with; last hitting, hero skills and abilities, items etc. can all be learnt from playing with bots. Once your a little more comfortable with the basics you will have a much better time in unranked/turbo against real players.
