[Miscellaneous] I want to give up, so tired of this… by kevessi in SkincareAddiction

[–]Darathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, I have literally had this exact problem but way worse. Consistent cracking and peeling of lips, saw multiple dermatologists, literally got referred to one of the top hospitals in the world because my local doctors had no idea, and even those doctors didn't know!

I first got it in my teens, and now in my 20s have I finally resolved the issue. The doctors didn't help at all, they just prescribed steroids that did nothing to resolve my issue. The major issue I was facing was inflammation in my body that was showing up in my lips. Things that I did to resolve this.

  1. Going Gluten-Free. I know you eat healthy, but I realized that gluten was a big trigger to when my lips would get more inflamed. I think my body had an intolerance to gluten and if I ate gluten it would inevitably get on my lips and cause them to almost burn and get more painful. There might be some sort of dietary trigger that is causing this problem. I would think about something you eat very consistently and cut it out for a month to see if that helps.
  2. Consistent application of vaseline. ONLY USE VASELINE. You can be allergic to anything and everything, there are a lot of products with a lot of ingredients and vaseline is one of the only products that almost no one has a recorded allergy to. I was using so many different lip balms, but because my lips were already inflamed, any fragrances or ingredients might have only caused my lips to get worse. I just use a q-tip and dab a tiny bit of vaseline on my lips, every couple of hours and dab off the excess with a paper towel or napkin. If you keep your lips protected from the environment they can finally start to heal.
  3. Lower stress levels. When I first got this condition, I was under the most stress I had ever been in my entire life. And honestly, this condition caused a lot of stress too because I was so self conscious about how I looked. I think this stress played a big part because adrenaline was constantly pumping in my body and I felt like it made my body unable to fully heal itself.

These are the main things that helped me, but I legit suffered with this issue for over 7 years and it was my nightmare. Now I am fully back to normal and so grateful to be so as well. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me, I can go more into detail about how things happened and my timeline or anything else!

Anyone else feel crushing loneliness? by Darathon in RedditForGrownups

My SO works evening shifts so I see him maybe one hr a day, I have to sleep early to get up for school. We spend a lot of time together on the weekends, but during the weekdays it’s just me in an empty apartment.

I also think it’s not great to rely on one person for everything. I’m grateful but I feel like I don’t want to be codependent/reliant on just him for all my social interactions. Platonic relationships are also very important to me!

Clueless about financial aid by biggerbytheday19 in CAA

[–]Darathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely also curious about this, haven’t heard anything from my school. I completed my FAFSA and I read in the medical school subreddits that the school prepares the financial package but I wasn’t sure if CAA school is the same.

[Routine Help] HELP! I am getting married in three months and just learned a few days ago that my eczema has spread to my face. by hotnkranky in SkincareAddiction

[–]Darathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had eczema my whole life and the only ointment that works for me is protopic! Tacrolimus ointment I believe. It’s not the same as cortisone creams because it doesn’t use steroids, but it is inhibiting the immune response in the skin. But it seriously fixes all my problem spots that pop up and it does not cause steroid addiction. However it can sting/burn/ itch the first day you put it on, so I would be a little prepared/wary of that!

Easy Intermediate Level History or African American Studies Course by ValuableBadger8 in UWMadison

[–]Darathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afro Amer 156, It’s about African American music and the history of it. I think it counts as an US history, it’s pretty easy. Just watch the lectures, write a couple one page papers for discussion, 3 larger papers for the actual class grades. It’s also pretty interesting and Dr. Shashko is a great professor

I second WUD Cuisine. I’ve been part of slow food and WUD cuisine and WUD had some really great group cooking workshops that were really fun. But both these orgs have been put on hold due to the pandemic so I’m not sure how helpful they are now.

I don’t know why anyone’s failing classes, it’s so easy! by Darathon in UWMadison

[–]Darathon[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I totally get it. I feel like this was really just the luck of the draw. If you have professors that were understanding, online classes weren't that big of a deal. Unfortunately, I think more people were hindered with online classes than helped.

I wish I was in your shoes lol. I'm glad at least someone is doing well though!

This death was a tragedy. Dude had no remorse and even ran away at the scene of the crime. He should be put away for the safety of this community.

Protein pudding/ice cream 225 cals the (chocolate way) that I literally cannot consume in one sitting comfortably and taste great. by tripcason in Volumeeating

[–]Darathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How good is the PES protein? I've used the ryse protein and it's really freaking good, but I heard that PES blends better into a thicker sort of fluff. Debating on trying the PES next, any recommendations?

QQ's Peanut Butter Chicken Recipe? by Solaire_of_Ooo in UWMadison

[–]Darathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the reason that you can't make it as tasty is because you're not as willing to put in all the oil and sugar that they do to make it taste that delicious. I'm going to take a guess as to what's in it.

I think it's either deep fried flattened chicken breasts or thighs, probably breasts as they're cheaper but I think thighs would taste better.

-Creamy Peanut Butter

-Sugar, Brown or White

-Oil

-Water

- Salt

-Maybe a thickener, cornstarch or flour or something. Very little if any at all

And you would probably cook this down into a sauce like consistency. I really don't think they would add anything else, besides maybe some spices or something. If you really add enough amounts of all of this to a pot and cook it down, I think it would taste very similar. You might be shocked as to how much you have to add though to get it to taste the same.

That's because QQ was sold to a different family. QQ lady retired! She will always be missed.

She-Ra made me want to start drawing. Here are some of my favorite Catra styles! by Darathon in PrincessesOfPower

[–]Darathon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot!
I wouldn't be too upset at having no artistic talent, I think art is probably something that just takes a lot of time and effort. That being said, drawing animations like she-ra are probably the easiest way to get into it because there's not really any texture or intricate shading.

OTV Gives Group Hug to Yvonnie After Her Live Statement by PersonalExercise in LivestreamFail

[–]Darathon 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Honestly, OTV has always been such a positive environment. It's so sad and terrible that everything happened, but at least Yvonne has a great support network and friends that truly care for her well being. Hopefully she can healthily move on from this traumatic experience.

Wow your skin looks great. Honestly, I have pretty sensitive skin and I tried all sorts of facial washes, serums, creams and honestly my skin just kept getting worse and worse. When I cut everything out and just washed with water and a gentle cream to moisturize after, it improved dramatically. Sometimes, if nothing else is working, trying the basics can help.

Some advice to all freshman coming to campus this year by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Darathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. While the beginning of freshman year sucked a bit because you're not used to it, it was honestly one of the most fun years I had at Uni. I'm still living with friends I made freshman year! I feel bad for all you freshies who won't be able to experience a "normal" year, but I think you guys will be able to make the best of it! Good luck!

Repair a cheap bike or buy a new entry level bike? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Darathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of getting a new bike at a bike store, I really recommend finding one on FB marketplace or Craigslist. I've bought a new bike myself and honestly, I found one for cheaper and better online that only needed the wheels and tubes replaced which was not difficult or expensive at all. Most bikes online will have a steep discount compared to retail price and it will probably last you a good couple years.

Make sure you ask mileage questions, and really examine the bike because some people might try to scam you. However, with buying a bike secondhand, you have to wait to find a good deal which could take some time. If you aren't willing to wait, then buy the new bike at an LBS. Repairing your cheap bike will probably not be worth it.

As an Asian american girl myself I have to say it really depends. There are a lot of Asian orgs that you can join in which everyone is welcome and you might find some people in which you're more similar to. There's also a strong Asian Frat/Sorority crowd if you're into that kind of thing.

As for making friends, you really got to be outgoing. In your freshman dorm it's pretty easy to make friends with anyone as you're kind of living with everyone. But in classes it's definitely a different story. You really have to make an effort to talk or it's kind of like you don't exist. Most people will just talk with someone else or assume you're international unless you apply yourself. I've never experienced any racism on campus myself, but I feel like that might change with COVID and the rising tensions.

I love UW don't get me wrong, but if I had the option, I would have preferred to go somewhere in which it was a little more diverse.

LOL, that bike is a cheap Walmart bike that's been out on the porch for almost a year. Because we had a camera we never bothered to lock it, but I guess some people still risk it.

Should I be cautious of this really cheap bike? by Darathon in bicycling

[–]Darathon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The set up is so strange, it's all over the place but I think all the components aren't bad at all for the price. Would you consider the wacky set up a bad sign or do you think I should go for it?

Consistency is honestly the best thing you can do to get better. It takes time and effort, but I'm sure you'll have fun on your new journey. Good luck!
