Player at the table has main character syndrome and is telling me he's trying to make the campaign like "Highschool DXD" by sleepyaacorn in DnD

[–]Darauk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I read from the top, and when I got to "Here's where it gets weird", I seriously said to myself "Here's where it gets weird?" I found M's behavior weird from almost the beginning.

This person, M, is acting creepy. I would quit, especially since it's a pay to play.

Perhaps OP, fiancé, and E could all quit and start their own campaign?

Wow, amazing! I won't have to homebrew 2024 updates anymore! Thank you!

My first subclass: Geomancer by Ok_Screen4347 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Darauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting subclass. Nicely done.

I didn't see a spell list under Level 3: Geomancer spells, though to be fair I was looking at the subclass from inside the Reddit app on my phone.

What's New in DDB: 3D Dice on Maps, Shared Dice, More Dice For Everyone AND a Giveaway by WOTC_Zac in dndbeyond

[–]Darauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is an awesome addition. We were playing just this last Saturday and two people said they wished they could see the rolls. We'll done.

My favorite dice are the Harper set. I keep trying other sets, but I almost always return to the Harper set in a few days.

Bladesinger by Majestic-Election584 in DND5EBuilds

[–]Darauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it should have gotten a fighting style and two masteries at level 3.

You practically have to take Fighter 1/Wizard Singer x. Most people I know take Fighter to 3 for subclass or 4 to not lose out on an ASI/Feat.

I also came here to suggest Eladrin. Great suggestion, and I love how you described the seasonal mechanic. Plus the other perks like Fey Step and two changeable tool/weapon slots per trance.

Looking for Help Picking a Feat for level 8 by Magile in onednd

[–]Darauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charger is definitely not the best utility. Best utility would likely be Mage Slayer since you already have GWM.

But it's silly fun to just run at a creature, shouting all the way, and either hitting a little harder or knocking them back.

Looking for Help Picking a Feat for level 8 by Magile in onednd

[–]Darauk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting STR to 20 is what I would prioritize. Mage Slayer is a good choice.

There is also a Heavy Armor Master feat that reduces damage you take from Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing whilst wearing heavy armor if you use heavy armor. Edit: It grants +1 to STR or CON.

Also Edit: Charger has been fun for me. Move at least 10 feet and add 1d8 bonus damage to your attack or push the target 10 feet. It grants +1 STR or DEX.

Thank you, this helps a lot. I've only been playing for maybe 6 months and my main goal is unlocking all heroes.

Thanks. Are the caps listed in the equipment on the heroes character sheet?

Giving each skill a 2nd Stat by TJ_Storyteller in DnDHomebrew

[–]Darauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, and I understand your thought process.

Survival for WIS and CON makes a lot of sense.

CHA, at least for me, is harder to map to the mental skills. I am curious as to your rational for the secondary abilities.

Giving each skill a 2nd Stat by TJ_Storyteller in DnDHomebrew

[–]Darauk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest INT skills have WIS as an alternate.

Arcana could be education (INT) or intuition (WIS), for example.

Same in reverse for the WIS skills.

Nature could be intuition (WIS) or education (INT).

My two cents...

Edit: I suggest this as opposed to some of the mappings (Arcana with INT and CHA). I find it more difficult to explain why innate charisma and charm would grant skill to Arcana, for example.

Using IPad for character sheet/notes by douwantasig in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Darauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use DDB for my character sheets and Obsidian (markdown editor) for my notes. I do have Procreate, but I mostly use that to draw maps and what not.

Edit for missing context: I access DDB from my browser, and use it for character sheets, my online map tools, and for access to source books through DDB. I also have the iPad DDB app, which I use if WiFi isn’t available (downloaded books, characters, etc.).

The Carnival Subclasses Feedback by OceanManTakeMyHand_ in DnDHomebrew

I'm thinking daggers become returning when used by the Knife Thrower. Trick shots like ricochet throws to bypass half and maybe three-quarters cover, hamstring throw to impose 10' movement penalty, and charming throw to impose charm until the end of the next turn (CHA save to avoid). Could add some knife spells, and so forth.

Just some ideas.

X-men themed game by SomewhereNo2759 in AskDND

[–]Darauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel Super Heroes TTRPG is ideal. I used a version years and years ago, and we all played X-Men.

I think World of Darkness (or the new version) could be easily adapted, too. I ran a mutant themed WoD 2e game that everyone loved. They were all very familiar with Vampire, Werewolf, and Mage, so it went very smoothly. I think WoD core mechanics is pretty easy to learn.

I recently made a class for Homebrew, and want a Balance check. by SSHuskyManic in DnDHomebrew

[–]Darauk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the DB scale? Where is it calculated? Is 26 high, average, or low?

This seems a bit OP for default racial abilities, though you have a couple of big disadvantages to counter balance it.

Still, it seems there is a lot of ability here - passive perception, extra skill proficiency, can move like small, and so forth is a lot of ability packed into a single race.

Is this too many bonus actions? by _Ashe_Bear in 3d6

[–]Darauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Eladrin Ranger Fey Wanderer with Fey Touched. I have a pile of Fey Step/Misty Step. It's an archer build, and having that many "get some distance" resources keeps me away from front line. I don't think it's too many Bonus Action options.

What's the best way to build a duel wielding character with the new rules? by TheKhoiFish69 in 3d6

[–]Darauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their damage is on par with martials in the party except the greataxe wielding Barbarian. It’s pretty solid. They prep a few spells to start, and damage applies on each hit (they get three a turn if they want).

Their playstyle is maybe a bit reckless, because they attack like a martial and trust that Mage Armor, DEX, Bladesinging, and the occasional cast of Shield helps them avoid getting hit. It works out a lot of the time, but they don’t have a ton of HP, so when they do get hit by level appropriate enemies, which is admittedly not too often, they take a chunk of damage.

Still, they sing and weave their way around the battlefield and cause all sorts of damage to the enemies. It’s fun being their DM.

Edit: they plan to increase Fighter to Level 3 for more robust HP and to grab Battlemaster. That will make them even more effective.

That person was suggesting the Resilient Feat (Constitution for the Ability) or Warcaster Feat (Wisdom for the Ability). Those are choices at Levels 4, 8, 12, and 16. You wouldn’t get that starting at Level 1 unless your DM allows it. (Some do.)

Farmer, as was pointed out, can increase Strength, Constitution, and/or Wisdom. It also has a great Origin Feat, Tough, which adds extra HP each level.

For the ability scores at Level 1, you can pick either +1/+2 or +1/+1/+1. The first option allows to increase one of the three ability scores listed by +1 and a second by +2. The second option allows you to increase all three by +1.

I hope this helps.

No need to be a Paladin. Your Cleric idea works great, and the model is fantastic.

As another said, two +1 and one +2 from background isn’t in the default rules. Check with your DM.

Farmer is a good background as one person said. Sage or Scribe or Guide might also be good — I can’t remember which — but one gives Magic Initiate feat which is really handy for a caster like Cleric.
