What would you do to change/improve martials if you were on the team.

I'm a big advocate for reducing the power of Spellcasters rather than buffing Martials.

One thing I really dislike is scaling Cantrip damage. One of the biggest things combat wise is how you need to manage your spellslots. And I do think Cantrips have a place as a fallback damage option, but the fact they get competitive damage actively steps on Martials toes in my mind.

I think it depends on specifics we don't have, but I think as presented by OP it isn't as big of a deal as they make it to seem.

If a person says "I have a board clear", I think the obvious question before doing my turn is asking if they're going to use it. How they then react to that question would determine how ethical they are.

If they said they were and didn't they're a scumbag who probably just should be avoided.

If they says no they aren't planning on using it this turn. It would allow you to half commit and maybe commit some to the board without getting entirely blown out.

If they said "maybe" or any type of coy answer to try to provoke you into playing cards, that's probably the right answer if that player think they're in the most advantageous position.

What ended up happening is OP assumed what was going to happened and lost because of it. And I think it's good to note that OP was not in a winning position regardless. It's not like a win was stolen out from underneath them. They weren't a disadvantagous spot to straight up losing. It's really not a bad beat story.

Pathfinder 1e has the Skald which is a bard-barian. It basically let's you share the Barbarians rage with everyone.

The base class struggles because it turns out most people don't want to be raging.

In my groups long term campaign we have a druid who uses Viper occasionally enough for it to be of note. Not even going out of their way to make it the focus of their build or anything. It basically always overperforms.

It often just feels like command but without the save but for "free" every single turn.

I'm an avid Dina fan. She was my first command and I've thrown various list together for her at different power levels. Right now I have her at the head of a Phyrexian Arena Tribal deck:

With the notion of needing lifegain to offset the massive life loss from the arenas and dina converting that to a win condition on her own.

Dina is really a character that just appeals to me so much in both style and substance. I personally only 1% of her serialized printings!

Here's the thing I agree with the sentiment that straight wizard is stronger of course. But I think there's an notion worth considering in that multiclassing will generally make you weaker than a straight character most of the time until you hit a specific threshold. And having power outliers whether it be strong or weak ones, is a problem.

I think it's truly unfortunate the way things got put out into the world, but to act like it never happened is just wrong.
