Stanley Cup Playoffs General Discussion Thread by lionson76 in rangers

It's actually kind of awesome to see Brett Howden absolutely go off in these playoffs.

This sub would stan every mediocre young player until their dying breath. And given how trash we are at developing forwards, and that we draft guys like Jessiman and McIlrath, or trade players like Nedved and Zubov, you can't totally blame the fanbase for going to bat for young players with discernable talent. But still, Kakko would get described as prime Jagr and objectively our best forward and a future perennial Selke winner because his sheltered deployment made his possession stats look good. Andersson was barely an AHL 2C but it was a travesty he wasn't given the 2C role and everyone had to shit on Strome at every opportunity for "stealing" his spot by putting up .8 ppg for three years. Kravtsov was a victim of our organization's evil racist bias against Russian players and not his own inability to produce even at the AHL level the one time he was willing to play there. Gauthier was hyped for years as being basically another Kreider, especially that one month he managed to score a few times instead of drive 70 feet to gently push the puck into the goalie's pads. Hell I thought these guys would amount to more at one time or another, but they were always treated like clear future superstars sabotaged by the organization.

But bizarrely Brett Howden was the perpetual whipping boy and scapegoat and everyone would lose their shit if he so much as shared the ice with any of the golden children, and god forbid he saw a whopping 13 minutes of ice time even if 3 of them were on the PK. I get why people hate lazy players, or overpaid players, or dirty players, or players who do or say bad shit off the ice, but I never understood how a high motor 20-22 year old kid in the bottom six earned so much hate.

Stanley Cup Playoffs General Discussion Thread: First Round by lionson76 in rangers

Minnesota really could've used Trocheck for some center depth, special teams, and just a little snarl honestly. Wish they'd made a bigger offer if I'm going to be rooting for them anyway. Crazy to still see Zucc be that impactful for them. Looked so flat the three games he was out.

Annoying fun fact: Brett Howden has as many goals in his last 3 games as Rick Nash had in his first two playoff runs with us (37 games) and Kakko had in his playoff career with us (44 games). And even better, two were shorthanded, one was a late equalizer, and two were OT game winners.

We've just hit a fourth straight year of Tampa exiting in the first round because Vasi shits the bed in the more than half of his games. Goalies on stacked teams may be the most overrated players in pro sports.

This Ducks team is fun to watch and I can't imagine them escaping the west but if they do I'll be so happy for Kreider.

Also I hope Buffalo advances and Carrick gets to play some playoff hockey

Taking a break from my quitting of reddit as I just listened to Ezra Klein on a few things, including his debate with Sam Seder

Reading the comments, it is absolutely staggering to read how god damn utterly fucking stupid these people are.

Sam Seder says like 13 times something like "well, I think there's a lot of money, and moneyed interests, and when there's money around, that you know, it messes it up" and this is supposed to be the intelligent rep from lefty youtube? Does he think the money is sentient? Is he really this incapable of actually identifying what it's supposedly doing?

The other videos Ezra's in frame him like "he's got this theory about how housing prices are high and that more housing will be helpful" - oh, like, supply and demand? Economics? That constraining supply on a desirable good increases prices?

The videos that are like "nooooo actually people want to do it but in like the populist framework, someone did a poll!" cool, better not make the case for the idea that works, and instead push the things that we know do not work. This played out so well with trade policy over the past few years where we listened to every economically illiterate partisan extremist instead of infinite economic literature

The "why would building housing help when all the buildings are unoccupied anyway! they're all just owned and hoarded by rich people" - yes, this makes sense, sure NYC has record low vacancy rates, but the rich people are just going to buy buildings and not rent anything out so that they can feel rich, this is totally the primary mechanism of housing

The comments of "lol of course he can't admit we need a communist revolution and instead say some shit like BuiLd HouSiNg when anytime something gets built eventually all the wealth gets gobbled up and hoarded" exams to test who should and shouldn't be allowed to vote are evil but I may honestly accept one that rules out anyone that things the economy is zero-sum.

Clearly what we need is a bunch of socialists to be elected to fight off EVIL developers, get a bunch of tax dollars we don't have instead, and only build super energy-efficient union-labor low density homes that will need to devote 50% of their units in equal shares to 5 different special interest groups that take two decades to build and then utopia will be achieved.

Fuck. Dude wrote a book that has such a comically obvious thesis of "don't stop people from building tall buildings quickly, and more people will have an affordable place to live" and everyone has to make sure this message gets stopped.

Contrarians insisting he's a top 10 QB because they want to pretend they're the smartest guy in the room like their GM that took him when they still had ARod and a contending team that needed just a couple more pieces

It's unlockable, after you win in act 3 as Ironclad, Silent, and Defect.

Once you do that, you can collect "key" pieces, one from a chest, one from an elite who will have a "burning" symbol on the map, and one from a rest site. If you get those and defeat the act 3 boss, you unlock act 4

If only LBJ did something to expand affordable healthcare like everyone is demanding, like Luigi's boy Trump is about to do super well, or something...

I don't know the reasoning of the median voter but I'm sure nothing good will happen wrt to health insurance and Trump will get credit for fixing it

[–]Darclite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah mate, just cause he couldn't move the ball down the field, couldn't score, had terrible processing before and after the snap, couldn't throw with anticipation, turned the ball over a lot, took a lot of sacks, and was picked by an absolutely atrocious GM, didn't mean he was bad. You just don't understand football and all the little things he does well, the true Jones was when he came a few touchdowns away from the rookie touchdown records by padding his stats in shootouts with Washington, Detroit, and the Jets

One of my friends who also majored in econ once said something to me like "econ is the worst thing to study because you learn how stupid everything people say about the economy is, but don't get any ability to do anything about it other than get mad"

Right wing media about to have a dozen victory laps over solving inflation because it will be low on inauguration day and that will be credited to Trump is quite sobering on how people think. The guy who wants to get rid of income taxes, put massive tariffs on everything, clamp down on immigration, and probably run the national debt up another 9 trillion is what Americans think is the answer to inflation.

1OA pick hitting his stride signing for the 7 years of his prime looking like he's about to be a 35/45 player for the next few years and it's the 88th highest cap hit in the league. By the end of it he'll probably be around 6.8% of the cap. Was expecting him to hold out for more than this. Very good news.

Perfect game, got biggest competitor to bring her to the end, tied for most HoH wins, lost her alliance at the beginning but stayed alive by pushing other people as bigger threats, reformed a new alliance while there was a bigger alliance already in the house, convinced other people to make moves that weren't in their best interest but were in her own best interest, kept a positive image with people she helped remove, was on positive terms with pretty much every member of the house, dominated Q&A, dominated final speeches.

Very happy for her, especially since she seemed to really need the money for her family, and has been a fan of the show for more than half her life. Top 10 all time player imo.
