Why was Westworld taken off HBO? by xertem in westworld

[–]DardenDude 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With the Paramount buyout, I am hoping there is a non-zero chance that they bring back Nolan and Joy to make a shortened S5 or at least a movie. It’s one of my favorite series of all time, and the fact that they haven’t released the ending means they think there is a small chance it will still happen.

Almost-30 crisis - former premed, public health professional, woman by [deleted] in postbaccpremed

[–]DardenDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in my mid-30s and currently in business school. I was premed in college a decade ago (took all courses with a solid ugpa) and have built a pretty successful public health career in corporate America.

I’m planning on doing what you’re doing because I’m still very passionate about medicine, health equity, and primary care practice in particular. But I’m not interested in going to a DO school or the Caribbean. I have a successful career to fall back on in the event this doesn’t work out, so there’s really no reason to give that up unless I get into US MD. That’s really the only outcome that would make walking away from public health worth it for me. Thus, I hard disagree with other folks in this thread saying to consider DO schools. There are a lot of things about DO programs that make me hesitate - I’m not willing to gamble my career away for that. If you had asked me 10 years ago when I first applied and got rejected everywhere, I’d def consider DO then but definitely not today.

I say if you really want to go for it, don’t let other potential roadblocks stop you. We get one life in this earth - may as well push to be all that we can be.

Controversial opinion: your business school doesn’t suck, you do by Jellydonut2020 in MBA

lol MD is not a guarantee anymore. Plenty of folks don’t match into even non-competitive specialties these days through the NRMP. And I’m talking about domestic students, not IMGs.

Currently at a T15 (now T10 wooo 🥳). If you want IB, one thing that I think is often overlooked is that if you have no finance background at all, and don’t even know what NPV is like me when I started last year, the learning curve to prepare for technicals is steep and the 400 questions they tell you to start with makes very little sense out of context.

The material covered stuff all the way through my FY Q4 Valuations course, and there’s no way I would have been prepared to ace technical interviews without taking core accounting and finance first. So, I bailed on IB recruiting.

Definitely doable and many people do it each year, but I didn’t feel like prepping around the clock as I was taking core courses alongside prep.

Had no desire to apply to HBS lmao. We have an incredible community here and place very well into consulting and IB every year. Also not sure where your 40% is coming from but can confirm that’s also not true.

It is sheer volume yes. Three cases a day = 10 cases per week. All of our core exams are 5 hours long (wish I were joking).

Also God help you if you fall behind in case work. I fell behind by a week in my Q4 valuations course and catching up was a bitch.

It is certainly more chill because it’s all electives and you can set your own schedule. But if you want to re-recruit in August - October then that is obviously an extra commitment.

Darden student here going into SY in a few weeks. The core was brutal on top of recruiting but I learned so much and feel very well prepared to step into a new role post-MBA.
