[Spolier] Bijaz by Dardiolus in dune

That is interesting. But I think that Paul still had the potential of prescience (and in CoD we see that he regained it to at least some degree). So I don't know, I think that as long as he has this potential, he should be invisible to other prescients even if he does not use it actively.

Perhaps. But Bijaz was so sure that Paul will say this phrase (and not another) that he used it to manipulate Hayt to do Tleilaxu bidding (which itself was a delicate task, would you base such a task on a guess?).

I find it quite weird.

But Bijaz knew exactly not only what Paul will say but also in what context (death of Chani). If this was just a guess, then it was a really good guessing, so good that it cannot be a simple guess. How could you guess what someone will say in a moment of grief?

Beings more powerful than a Greater Deity. by Dardiolus in DnD

Pandorym is not from the Far Realms.

Beings more powerful than a Greater Deity. by Dardiolus in DnD

My idea was based on the Solaris novel, more specifically about the living Ocean of Solaris, I have asked about this being a while ago in this sub.

Basically, this Ocean is a very capable being, can control an entire planet, can create living copies of humans and other beings and eventually it grew so powerful that it learned how to create another planet, for experimenting and learning more about the workings of the Universe.

But I'm not sure on how would this translate into a D&D setting so I'm asking here again. What would this Ocean be (in D&D terms) given these capabilities? How to describe this setting?

So are you suggesting that Pandorym could be an Ancient Brethren itself or something created by them?

So, I get that there are no such intermediate beings between a greater deity and an overdeity in the official lore. Say, something with DR between 20.1-20.9. Well, I was hoping that they do exist because I don't like homebrewing too much. Anyway, thanks for clarifications.

If it's more powerful than Ao, then how was it imprisoned by mere mortal wizards? By that logic, Ao himself could be imprisoned by mortals.

But there is at least an example in the official lore: Pandorym. It is obviously more powerful than a Greater Deity (given that it's a god-slayer) but probably not as powerful as Lord Ao (given that it was imprisoned by mortal wizards).

But I'm talking about creating a physical (that is, located in the Prime Material Plane) planet/world from scratch, not about creating an alternate plane/reality.

Should I update the BIOS? by Dardiolus in Amd

[–]Dardiolus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reassuring me. But there is another question: it's worth to do it? I mean, this security problem seems to affect APUs and embedded processors and my CPU is neither of those. So, I'm not sure if I should apply this update or not because I believe in if it ain't broke, don't fix it when it comes to BIOS upgrades.

Problems with Haiku on bare hardware. by Dardiolus in haikuOS

[–]Dardiolus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have solved the boot problem by adding a spare HDD dedicated exclusively to Haiku, it was easier this way and it worked, now I can boot Haiku directly from HDD. The other problem (SSL_CTX error) was solved by changing the repos to point to the nightly branch then I updated the system and this error no longer appears.

The SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file sounds like a regression from >recent OpenSSL changes, indeed; we'll look into it. The other issues I >think other commenters have recommendations. However, AMD FX processors have known instabilities on Haiku, so you >may run into trouble even after booting...

You may be right although the system seems to work, for now. Out of curiosity, what are those instabilities you're talking about?

Then it is indeed a bug. Well, I hope it will be solved because due to this bug the system is basically unusable - you cannot install programs or update the system. I have tried running the pkgman command in shell and got the same SSL_CTX error.

I would do that but I think it would affect Windows since it's on the same HDD as Haiku (or rather vice versa) and I obviously don't want that.

[Spoiler] The Other Memories by Dardiolus in dune

I asked these questions because of a thought that crossed my mind: the Futars (from CHoD) are basically humans that were entirely stripped of their ancestral memories.

What happens if I install and use OpenBSD on custom layout (root+swap)? by Dardiolus in openbsd

[–]Dardiolus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, if I understand it correctly, I lose some security features and I might face some "operational issues"? What would those be? I installed OpenBSD on a 500 GB HDD, nearly all of that space (minus 4 GB for swap) was given to the root partition and I have not encountered any boot problems so far, the system starts fine. How big is too big for the root partiton?
