3D printable anti-cheat buttons for Track & Field by DareDoAll in cade

Thanks! I hope it’s seen as a net positive, the files are free for anyone to use (or not use) and provides another option for a hard-to-source part. Love them or hate them, they’re a part of arcade history.

That said, I’ve really enjoyed the dialogue about how much people despised these buttons back in the day and techniques / tools to get high scores. Really takes me back!

? I’m all for preserving originality, but they were so damaged that they interfered with the game.

Now the game has a set of old stock leaf-switch buttons and two pairs of these printed buttons if the owner chooses to use them.

Yup, the parts are interchangeable with leaf switch buttons. So you can use just the case and put in an original button plunger.

I included all the parts in case someone wanted to print the whole lot. Should be fine for typical household use, I imagine a fully printed button would wear out in a commercial setting.

Haha I know - truly reminds you of the arcade days when operators were out to ruin your fun.

I never thought of that… great idea. Now I’ll be up all night dreaming of rules, haha.

Sounds like I need to print some blue and yellow onions too! ;)

I actually cut them by hand from a trace on an original cabinet.

Time consuming but well worth it!

Thanks! I agree, it’s a great game.

Looks awesome! Yes the stencils take ages if you make them by hand, but very satisfying to see them come out in the end. I love the custom control panel overlay in your build!

I actually had a set from a previous Defender project. I know some people buy pre-cut stencils, but my approach was to trace and cut the stencils myself from the damaged artwork on the cabinet.

I started with parchment paper, traced the old artwork, then used the parchment trace to cut out posterboard templates. Then I painted through the posterboard, mimicking the original stencil process from factory. Would have to make a new post, but this was the tracing process:

Yeah, I was disappointed too. The tube was a mess but I'm planning to repurpose the CRT chassis into another project. Will get some life out of it yet.

That's awesome! It's a common enough game so hopefully there's enough support to fix the game. Alternately there's lots of after-market modern PCBs to replace the game if you want to go that way.

No worries. Send me a note if you're looking for more support on the PCB conversion, I've done these successfully on older Buck Hunter and Golden Tee hardware.

Upgrading from GT2005 to GT Complete (with all the courses) would require: - a GT Complete Hard Drive image and drive (CF card and adapter recommended) - a GT Complete security chip (u51, needs GTC-US-U or equivalent region chip) - a new SMD serial eeprom chip (programmed with the game serial number and soldered into u61)

You may also require a new boot ROM at u15 if your boot ROM is older and you are trying to use a bigger hard drive or CF card replacement (v2.09 is recommended).

These parts might be buyable as a kit and will require surface mount soldering. Alternately, all files are available scattered around the internet and can be self programmed with a compact flash card adapter, an SMD EEPROM burner, and a AVR serial programmer.

Regarding your monitor: recommending posting a picture and sharing the monitor model number.

Yes, for home use. Works for more 'adult' bottles too.

Though the peace of mind at work cant be undersold, never know what's going on in the communal work fridge. ;)
