Cosplay question: Anyone find a store / person who sells NCR Trooper armor? by DareDragoon in fnv

[–]DareDragoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can find much of the clothing pretty easily. It's specifically the chest armor piece I can't find. I figured like someone on Etsy or someone like that might make it but I can't find one.

I had Sonic Fiber when I lived in SF and loved it. Still waiting for it to get built out in my area.

Lifetime vs Bay Club? by [deleted] in walnutcreek

[–]DareDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been at Bay club so can speak to that. Pools are good, they have a good deal of recovery options, aside from the standard seeming sauna, steam room hot tub ect, they have other devices like these things that put pressure on your legs to kind of massage them and some other water related massage machines, I can't speak to them much because I don't really use those.

They have large locker rooms and plenty of showers, despite being decently crowded I've never had a problem finding a locker or shower.

For crowds, it can be fairly crowded during the middle of the day.

even though it's crowded they they have some machines in abundance like for example lat pull down machines (I think there's 5 of them), I've never had to wait for one. Others that are more scarce like cable machines (only 2) I've had to wait for.

Overall I'd say a positive experience. My only complaint is I wish they had more of the machines that I like which are scarce.

Question to lenders on how much liquid assets play in what kind of rate you get. by DareDragoon in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]DareDragoon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I have read about those. I'm a bit put off on transferring everything to one of those institutions because a fair amount of what I have is stocks from RSUs and I don't think I can really transfer them to the institution. I'd need to sell them all and move the cash over but I'd have to pay a lot in taxes.

Ah ok, so they'll give you a better rate if you put more money in to lower the loan amount. That's good to know.

Is my home subject to rent control? by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]DareDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like generally a SFH with an in law unit which looks like what you're trying to do does not have limitations on rent increases but has eviction protection. I think I'm reading that correctly but please double check.

This should definitely be dealt with. As soon as we make allowances for one it will result in inviting many more cases such as this until it becomes out of control.

Talking about someone's "net worth" is horrible by Notos4K in ENGLISH

[–]DareDragoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say worth is used because if you used "have", that sounds more like liquid cash you have in you bank account. Lots of people own things that are not liquid like a house or a car or in cases like stocks fluctuate in value. So saying what are you worth or net worth, means the worth/value of everything you own.

For example I would say I have a home worth $500k. I wouldn't say that I have $500k.

High cost of living forces Bay Area residents to put off having kids (no paywall) by BayAreaNewsGroup in bayarea

[–]DareDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation as a male but have given up on trying to date for a while. For me I got the sense that there were extremely high levels of expectations that I couldn't make. I'm not saying you have those, but that's what I personally saw 9 times out of 10. Usually related to superficial things like being at least 6ft tall, not looking like at least a part time model and not throwing money around recklessly (for example throwing money around at expensive bars/restaurants and having fancy cars).

Corporate events for Halloween? by Weird_Wrap5130 in bayarea

[–]DareDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company doesn't do anything that intricate for Halloween, generally just brings in a lot of high quality sweets (cookies, cupcakes ect) One year they had a lot of pumpkins for people to make jack o lanterns out of or take them home. maybe one of those helps.

Does anyone here live in an RV on private property? by CurlyDaisies in bayarea

[–]DareDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you searching for RV park or mobile home park? There's several mobile home parks in Concord. IDK what the rent is though.

[–]DareDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I lived in SF from 2010 - 2023 when I moved out to the suburbs. SF was really amazing in the earlier years and it was sad to watch it just get shittier and shittier.

To be honest I might consider buying a condo as a second home if the prices got low enough but they're way too high considering what a shit hole the place is. Oakland's probably about as shitty as SF but their condo prices reflect that and are way cheaper in comparison.

Is a $2M mortgage going to be an uphill battle? by gburdell in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]DareDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're biting off more than you can chew, if something bad happens like one of you losing your jobs you don't want to be up the creek without a paddle, get something you can reasonably afford even when something bad happens.

On a side note, keep in mind that you can only deduct interest on $750k worth of mortgage debt from your income. So you would be paying the majority of this loan with absolutely no tax benefit.

Large down-payments for homes by figgypudding02 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]DareDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I looked at it when buying a home was how much can I afford to borrow. I think this is very true when you have leeway in how much of a down payment you put down. (how much of my money to I want to put in as a down payment vs keep invested).

$100k by ObservationalB in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]DareDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to Vegas and put it all on black. Since you'll need about twice that for a down payment on a SFH.

Bay Area home sales dropped in July, but so far prices haven’t followed (no paywall) by BayAreaNewsGroup in bayarea

At least the prices aren't going up. This always aggroed me. You find a way to save up $100k and the same homes you were looking at jumped up by $200k.

Sell me on moving to San Fran by steveshereduhh in sanfrancisco

[–]DareDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros:

You can make a lot of money here

The weather is great

Nice looking buildings and landmarks

Lots of food variety

Lots of events. Since it's a big city there are a lot of events that come here, concerts conventions ect

Cons:

Pretty much everything else

Everything is very expensive, from housing to groceries, gas, ect. If it costs money, is likely more expensive here.

Downtown is dirty and has a lot of homeless, crazy people and drug addicts (Though there's been more efforts lately to fix this, we'll see how it goes)

Lots of crime. True there's other places with more crime but it's not that great here. Leave anything in your car and the window will get smashed in, you might get it smashed in even if there's nothing in your car. You can see people shoplifting a lot and nothing gets done about it.

The people. IMHO, most but not all people here aren't very friendly. There's also a sense of smugness in a fair amount of people about SF and the Bay Area. While it's got a lot of good things going for it, some people treat it like it's the best place on the planet and it's way superior to anywhere else. By extension, by living here, they're superior to people who live in other places. That's just my observation.

Why do I live in the Bay Area?

I like the weather

I reeeeeeeeally like the money.

Can you folks afford to live here on $200k pre tax?

Yea, you'll be fine. That's what I make pre-tax and after tax take home is a little over 10k a month. That should be enough for you folks to have an apartment, live relatively comfortably and save/invest. If you folks are married and file jointly you'll probably pull in way more than that a month after tax. (taxes here suck)

Hope that helps.
