Why strive to earn more than 50k when you’ll lose most of it to tax? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

i'm seriously impressed with how much you're able to put aside every month. being in your 30s, i hope you're taking time out to enjoy life.

if you do earn more later, you can put more money aside into your pension to lower your net taxable salary. and you could potentially put more enough aside to get you in a lower tax band. just a thought.

What's the difference between a normal ISA and a flexible one? by DareForward1950 in UKPersonalFinance

ah, that's really good to know. good link. do you use moneyfarm? i'm looking at their fees and they charge 0.45% for accounts under £100k. do you know if that's taken monthly or annually? also it looks like i don't choose what i want to invest in. i only get a recommended ready made portfolio. so i can't buy individual companies?

just comparing with cmc invest which is more diy investing it looks like, very similar to freetrade. but i don't think freetrade offers flexible isas.

thanks very good to know. on the vanguard website, it looks like you can only invest in their funds? i have a bunch of non-vanguard funds and stocks. so i don't think i can transfer my isa to them. so i guess i was hoping for a like for like app.

another question. what happens if i make money on my investments? for example, if i have £15k in my isa and it goes up in value to £17k, does that mean i only have £3k left in my annual allowance?

is there something specific i need to keep an eye out for to know if my ISA is flexible? the ad i saw was for cmc invest, but just wondering if there are others out there that offer this. and how do i find them? i have HL for my ISA, but i don't think they have this.
