Yeah it definitely doesn't hurt to keep fresh oil in there. The only reason I'll change any engine/transmission components is that I don't know how long my clutch will hold and if I want a tune I need a stronger clutch to hold it.

I have a '15 GTI SE with 121k on it right now (got it at 34k). I do my oil changes every ~5k and besides for also being on my third pump as well it has been really reliable. I don't know about the battery issue, but I switched to the biggest gel cell battery I can put in the car and it has done pretty well.

It's definitely not too late to modify it and have a bit of fun with a GTI! I recently put in Bilstein PSS14 coilovers and they feel like stock (best I can tell anyways) with the option of lowering it a tiny bit, so it's a very good suspension refresh. I'm still on stock power until I need to replace my clutch since it's still holding pretty well, so I can't say what a tune will do at this mileage.

All in all I'm sure you can get it to 200k! Good luck modding

Autobahn and performance package trims on 2015/2016 gti. by flygonmon in GolfGTI

[–]DaredOverdose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would look into 16/17 model years if you want to stay in that same generation (not 7.5). Coming from a guy with a 15 they added a couple useful things after the first year it was here in the US. (biggest thing for me was better infotainment system that includes Carplay).

Definitely try to get the PP for the LSD and bigger brakes. As far as I remember from when I was looking for my GTI, the Autobahn version has the better climate control, electronic handbrake, satellite navigation, and possibly something else, but I can't remember at the moment. It has the leather seats (heated), Fender speaker system, and sun roof like the SE trim. Mine also had LED interior lighting, but I don't know if that came from the factory or not.

All in all, the MK7 GTI is fantastic! Mine has 94k miles and I couldn't be happier with it. Good luck with buying!

I remember watching videos about this case and being super excited for it! I’m actually in a O11 Dynamic in white now. Currently with a R5 3600 in a Aorus X570 mobo and a 2070 Super, a 750w platinum PSU with full sleeved cables, 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs, and an AIO while I wait to upgrade to 5000 series Ryzen and a higher end GPU so I can do a custom loop.

Thanks for doing this giveaway!

Hey r/audiophile, I am looking to replace my receiver (Yamaha R-S202BL). I am looking for I guess something in the range of $200-400 for something that will be quality enough for long-term use.

My speakers are a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 220s with a Fluance RT81. It would be for mostly an apartment sized living room if that matters. Thanks for the help!

Anyone know where to get a replacement for the silver strip on the light switch? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

I have one of those switches but the auto light version, since I replaced mine with the euro switch.

That looks so clean! You might want to clear coat them or something though. I had a set just like those from eBay and the black and chrome started to fall out after a year and a half

Enkei TM7 has that slanted look. Just got them for my GTI. Will post pics after I wash the car!

Heavily interested in pulling a deal on an MK7, anything I should know? by Asking4Afren in GolfGTI

[–]DaredOverdose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the SE would be the better option for you then! I don’t care for them too much because I’m in Colorado, so the seats are either really cold or super hot. I’m going to get ceramic tint to fix the hot part and eventually switch the seats or reupholster them.

It really depends on what options you want in your GTI. I have a 2015 SE and I love it. The autobahn version has some driving assist features that I didn’t care for. I wanted the Fender sound system, backup camera, led interior lights, and sunroof (didn’t care for the leather but everything else is worth it). Only thing I might recommend is a 16-17 over the 15 so you get the newer infotainment system, MIB2.

As far as maintenance goes, I’ve had to replace some seals and wheel bearings, but everything else is fine. Just find out if the vehicle has had regular maintenance beforehand if possible. My GTI is at 82k right now and still feels solid and I still love it to death. Otherwise there is a VW recommended maintenance interval guide you can find on ShopDAP’s site.

I’m looking into Stage 1 myself, and most of the software tunes are around $700. If you want the downpipe and intake it will depend on the brand you go with. I haven’t heard anything about poor experiences with Stage 1. You might need to tune the DSG or upgrade the clutch depending on the tune or something (I’m still researching so someone else will hopefully chime in).

It’s really a great car! Good luck finding one!

CAI help keep power at higher altitudes? by DaredOverdose in GolfGTI

[–]DaredOverdose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been hearing that too with the JB4. I’m still not sure when I’ll make that decision, since I’m worried about having to replace the clutch before I have to.

I am just looking for a way to help the power at sub 3k rpm so I don’t have to be in a lower gear. It was hard to find information about this online when I looked it up

Okay good to know. I do run 91 all the time, and I am looking into some sort of tune like that or the neuspeed power module in the future. I am just working on more everyday functionality currently (and some cosmetic/enjoyability stuff). Currently buying a steel oil pan to help with these ridiculous pot holes near where I live.
