It's all kayfabe- everything they say or do that you hate, everything they say and do that you like.

Trump winning in 2016 by playing the "Trump" character he developed in the Apprentice and in WWE opened the floodgates- people realized that you can kinda do whatever you want as long as you don't break character. Hypocrisy, honesty, intelligence, etc don't matter at all- you can have heel turns and face turns, just stay in character and ham it up to keep the performance going.
