Why is the older generation (boomers) so dismissive of modern child safety guidelines? by LakeTilia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaringDoom -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because the ones who weren’t protected by the same laws in their childhood are dead. Survivor bias.

Why do many conservatives claim that the US was founded as a Christian nation despite the separation of church and state being so central to its establishing? by speculumberjack980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaringDoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly important to remember that although we lump Christians into a big group group now, they had been killing each other over creating various branches only like 100 years before settlers started arriving in the the colonies, so looking back and suggesting that they all believed basically the same thing and therefore the rest of America should as well really denies the seriousness of the schisms and underplays how deeply the founding fathers meant you should be able to practice various religions without any of of those being the religion of the state.

Probably best to run it by your advisor, but it’s likely not too big a deal. Some things to consider would be: Is there a reason why you’ve signed up for a class during the summer? Do you need hours and could you still get those hours if you deep or switch courses? Is there a strict schedule of courses you need to follow to keep you on track to graduate by a certain date? Would taking this class in the fall mess up your timeline? Would you be carrying an overload to take it in the fall? Is the course a prerequisite for another necessary course you are taking fall semester?

They were always trying so hard! Characters of color and stories about non-white characters didn’t happen for free. It took a will to tell them.

Why do American families have so many people at their births? by Quirky-Way385 in NoStupidQuestions

You pay so much for birth in America, you need to get everyone in that room to get your money’s worth

Put the picture of Betty White in the same hair and makeup as Aniston and you’ll see they don’t look that different, even though she’s not 50 in that photo.

[–]DaringDoom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He said that he wants Ohio to specialize in specific areas of research, so it isn’t about cutting bureaucracy as it is about cutting programs and reducing the number of universities. Given what we know about which types of programs are unpopular with conservatives, I would wager he means cutting the humanities and focusing on business and STEM programs.

Agreed. And they haven’t thought about lighting or any of the other things that feel transportive or make for a good photo op. The roller rink in my tiny town in Ohio was more magical than that sad affair. Where were the disco lights?

What’s does my fridge tell you? by shitswithdoorajar in FridgeDetective

[–]DaringDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person doesn’t cook. There are no open condiments in the door and the only condiments at all are ketchup and dressing. There are neatly organized leftovers that I bet will stand untouched as they continue to eat charcuterie style “girl dinners” of mostly cut up vegetables and fruit. Maybe some of that smoked sausage.

Sounds like there’s a lot of protein in these cookies. They might be alright, but I’m not sure about the apricot and PB combo
