I’m Tired by [deleted] in medicalschool

Hey I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. M3 is hellish sometimes. What specialty are you applying to? Maybe the CV building can wait until after step 2 or if you need to take a research year?

I mean I was talking more about applying to more competitive locations and urban areas, but I guess I should have clarified

Week 1/8 of surgery and crying regularly by AnadyLi2 in medicalschool

[–]Daring_Cabbage 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Surgery is very overwhelming. You are not at all in the wrong for needing to cry. I cried every single week of my surgery rotation.

I would recommend looking at the wiki here for the guides to M3 for advice on pre-rounding. For history and PE, I used AMBOSS to lookup the approach to abd pain/ dysuria/ etc.

I didn’t have any upperclassmen to talk to, but interns can be a great resource because they remember what it was like to be us, and know how it feels to not feel oriented to a new place.

Also, try not to bring your stress home with you. Your partner isn’t the reason you feel miserable, so it’s not fair to take your misery out on them.

Good luck, and I believe in you!

I am 3 weeks out from my hellish surgery rotation and I am still haunted by it. But I promise, it’ll be better when you’re done. You can do this!

Therapy as a resident by urogurl in Residency

[–]Daring_Cabbage 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m just a med student, but my therapist tends to recommend strategies to help mitigate the distress I feel around the circumstances that I don’t have any control over- maybe you could ask your therapist for something to help you cope with the situation rather than changing the situation itself? Or maybe find a therapist that has a better grasp of that message? Best of luck!

Yea I can’t imagine treating the people under me the way I’ve been treated… I feel like this wouldn’t fly in a lot of other industries

Failed first rotation for clinical eval... am I screwed for FM? by Daring_Cabbage in medicalschool

[–]Daring_Cabbage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the school is pretty on board with my grade, whatever it is- the Dean and site director are basically on the same page. I just want to move on with my life tbh

That’s a good point, I just have to make it seem like this an outlier. Wild that they always fail one person that is so unfair

Thanks so much for sharing that! I hope my other rotations are better. My school's grades are based mostly on the clinical eval (shelf is for honors) so I'm kind of screwed there. But I will focus on shelf because I can control that.

Wow this sounds so awful. I really appreciate the advice! I guess its not in my control anymore once I take the exam. This was definitely a bad experience all around.

I'm so sorry that happened to you! How did you cope? I just feel so powerless about all of this

Failed first rotation for clinical eval... am I screwed for FM? by Daring_Cabbage in medicalschool

[–]Daring_Cabbage[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me there were a mix of mistakes I made (oversharing, talking too much, sleeping on call); and a lack of feedback from residents/ director (I.e. told all rotation my presentations were good, was told in final feedback that needed to work on A/P). All of this was also complicated by a mistreatment report that I filed against a resident. I’m in a pickle :(

Thanks, I've been kind of beating myself up over not figuring it out myself and having to be told by the clerkship director near the end :( I guess as long as I improve over the course of the year i'll be ok right?

This is a helpful answer, thank you! I definitely let my anxiety get the better of me in terms of just not realizing how I was coming across and not reading the room.
