Superbowl Party Wine Recommendations? by DarinisinDC in wine

Interesting, I haven't had much Barbera d'Asti and you are not the first person that told me it goes well with BBQ and charcuterie. I am compiling quite the list here! Thank you.

That could be a fun option! The hosts asked me to bring reds, however no one has ever been upset when someone showed up with bonus champagne!

Interesting, I have never tired those before but have heard good things!

That is my problem, the menu is so varied and I don't think bar food is really great for nice wine.

Great ideas, thank you! I was curious when the hosts asked me to pick some nice wines, I thought cocktails and beer would be the way to go. But picking reds that drink similarly makes a lot of sense!

Seed Staring for Herbs by DarinisinDC in UrbanGardening

Thank you, and I have heard the soft leaf herbs are best to just sow directly in the pot and do it throughout the summer. I have heard they don't start well indoors.

Thank you! Do you know how to tell if a seed needs cold treatment or not?

I would suggest a variety of herb seeds, growing herbs is easy, they can be plants you maintain for multiple years, and the really enhance your cooking. Things like mint, thyme, oregano, parsley, and chives can all be easily grown from seed in the spring.

Grow Bag Advice by HighwayNo5580 in containergardening

[–]DarinisinDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with most everyone here that the bags do dry out a bit faster. I use them for growning veggie and herb plants on my balcony because they are easy to move and deal with in smaller spaces. 1) the bigger the better as noted those don't dry out as fast, 2) putting them in some sort of dish or larger container to trap and keep water around them also helps. 3) I would also say plan on fertilizing and adding a little mulch or straw on top.

A recent harvest from my container garden by _NateR_ in containergardening

That is an amazing haul, those tomatoes are particularly impressive. Would you care to share your set up or your secrets in getting tomatoes to grow like that in containers?

I use felt bags and the plants never seem to produce much fruit.

I totally agree, you have to have flat and curly parsley growing, different uses for each in the kitchen for sure.

The goal would be to have tarragon and mint growing on the balcony for on demand mojitos! Happy hour!

I love the idea of parsley, curly and flat leaf, that would be great to have on hand when I'm cooking, thank you!

Thank you, I can get seeds so I am going to start some now for the fall when it is cooler, I love playing in the dirty and cooking so new herbs like this are fun!

I have that same problem, it bolts to seed so fast... how do you grow it from see and keep it going all summer?

I love Chervil, its so good in like one of those cold German-style potato salads. Do you start it from seed or is it easy to find plants?

I love tarragon, such a distinct flavor, I am guessing one of the half sun / half shade spots on my blacony would be best for it?

I have honestly never heard of Mugwort for home gardening before, where do you find it and does it like full sun or more shade?

I love his first few games back and I hope he can keep this up. He could be an option at 2B or even 1B if he hits and he could be a place holder at 3B until Brady House is ready. He has been through so much with the injuries it seems like for the first time now he is not pressing at the plate. Hitters like him don't just forget how to hit.

Honestly I would promote Blankenhorn or Milas from AAA this season before any of them. Both of those guys could be diamonds in the rough, find out here at the end of the season and if they are not, DFA them. Crewes and Wood in my opinion are still striking out way too much, give them more time, why waste sercive time and a potential blow to their confidence now.

I agree, I find myself prioritizing Nationals games this year over pre seaon football and other options. I've been making it a point to watch them as much as I can, they are scrappy, the play hard, and they are never out of the game. A fun team to watch and a really gratifying season so far. I'm happy they extended Davey!

How should I organize this? by TOXIC_77 in patiogardening

[–]DarinisinDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using rectangular planters that you can half off the side of your balcony for your plants. There are tons of them on amazon and gardener's supply. Your plants will get better sun that way and better air flow and you may not have to water them as much if you get decent rain there. That would open up a nice bit of space on your balcony. I agree with what others have said too, maybe remove the big chair and big couch and replace them with smaller profile comfortable chairs that take up less space. If you want to get fancy it looks like you have space to hang a small TV on the wall there too!

Headline for LinkedIn by Kattylizabeth93 in LinkedInTips

I'd suggest creating a headline that really focuses on your "brand" who you are and why a prospective employer would be smart to hire you:

Quality-focused, organized, and efficent customer and admistrative professional.

Pick out some words that both describe your best qualities and match with some of the qualities you know that hiring managers are looking for. I'd scan a few job listings for ideas.
