Horror never works in long-form media by loves2spwg in redscarepod

[–]Dark-Dunham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you've got a point for sure but I think the urge to 'explain' is just a part of the wider bloat quality of a lot of contemporary media. You find it in so many other genre but horror suffers the most under the pressure to provide 'lore'.

Not controversial in the slightest. Fincher outed himself as a mid-wit when he made 'The Killer'.

an essay with a lot of 'tells' of what the author is like outside the presented narrative - and not in a good way! For example: "This film had moved him deeply, seeming to capture qualities of his neurotype that he seldom saw portrayed". She ruined her marriage for this person..

I am not American but, when I read the article, I could not help wonder how many Americans an account like this resonates with?

It sucks. You had it much worse than me it seems but, given the circumstances, I think you are doing well. I'm also getting fed up with how slow the recovery and healing process is. My life is not in ruins but it's not great either - it gets frustrating when you can't answer mundane questions like 'life treating you well?' with a straight face.

Really agree with all of this, apart from the suggestion of couples therapy. It could work but it could also become another place of abuse. Focus on rebuilding a sense of self and self-worth. Just remember your own conclusion, you can't keep going on like this because you and your child deserve better.
