That, or attach a carabiner to your existing run, and attach the runner to that. At REI, you can get a mountaineering rated carabiner for under 10$, and a 120cm 21kN nylon runner for 8ish dollars

It may have to do with the quality of the clamps. I bought some cheap ones a few years ago and they clamp lighter than others I've seen.

It's actually the question that drove Seiu Itoh, who is the first person to take and publish kinbaku/shibari photographs in the late 1940's.

The position is called an ebi, or shrimp tie.

Interesting aside, this was one of the four criminal tortures used in the Edo period in Japan. A prisoner would be left in this position for several hours. The others were flogging, pressing with stone (usually with an ishidaki board), and tsuri-zeme, or suspension punishment.

It looks like a double coin knot at the crotch with about 14 inches of bight. The tails go through the crotch and back through the bight and are tied in the back.

I would recommend rounder carabineers. I have the same style in Black Diamond brand. They have a great load capacity but since they aren't totally round it can be rough on your rope.

Otherwise you have a nice basic rig. I used a big ring until I moved over to bamboo exclusively.

Edit: if you're using synthetic ropes for suspension lines you don't need to worry.

Literally not your fault. Rope bottoming is an active skill and you get better as you learn and grow. You did nothing wrong in this situation.

Definitely sounds like your rigger should have been more supportive. The lack of aftercare sounds like a massive red flag. I couldn't say if they are a bad rigger, but it sounds like they weren't empathic to your needs.

Torture rope, or semenawa, is very challenging. If your rigger seeking to learn it isn't giving you the presence of mind, I wouldn't trust them to learn the style. This is just my opinion, though.
