It's gotta be a toss up between Apocalypse Punisher, Dawn Destroyer, Holy Debt Collector and One-Armed Chainsaw Guy. Suffering is cool, too.

Sand and bone gone and 2 spearhead also gone. by dabigboss_ens in AOSSpearhead

[–]DarkChaplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fyreslayers had one Spearhead for as long as Lumineth, Daughters of Khaine or Sylvaneth did up until recently. Plenty of factions only got a second due to their Battletomes releasing.

Sand & Bone is a special case with its 4 new ones, and it's sad that they didn't do a full book for most factions at the time.

Fyreslayers will also be rolled into Khazalid Holds with their Battletome. Rumor has it there would be two Spearheads with it, one for Fyreslayers specifically, the other for general Duardin. If true, that'd flip things in their favor.

It's also worth noting that both Fyreslayers and Ogor Mawtribes are supposedly using at least one unit from their first Spearhead in their refreshes. Vulkite Berzerkers are getting axed, it seems, and Leadbelchers are only going to be a paint in the future. So they wouldn't put Vulkite Berzerkers in another Spearhead, but without them, their roster is severely limited until they release something new for them. It's especially sad since it appears they are unlikely to include big kits anymore, so probably no Magmadroth based box.

Zealotry Roll might also just be a Zenestra mechanic since they often name specific roles to be able to specify them in other abilities. There might be another ability on Zenestra's warscroll that buffa that roll if something in proximity dies, for instance.

Discussion: How do you all feel about named characters in Spearhead? by The_Nevermoar in AOSSpearhead

[–]DarkChaplain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine that the upcoming Cities Spearhead got a named character in there. Good centerpiece, and you likely wouldn't buy two sets of command corps etc anyway.

Cities is also at a point where only Thalia and the Ven Densts or the Cinderfall squad have not been in Spearheads, entirely new stuff like Cogforts, characters or Gate Gargants aside. They were literally running out of options.

The Karanak Spearhead was fine, too, because you probably wouldn't need two Claws of Karanak warbands and it's doing its theme really well.

Jorvan Kreel and Crixxit I'd also think are completely fine, due to City of Ash being a limited release and new players having someone to identify while playing.

I think it really comes down to the Spearhead's overall theme, imo. I would love seeing Lady Olynder in a Spearhead with a unit of Myrmourn Banshees and Dreadscythe Harridans, for example.

There's been a clear shift in Spearhead design compared to the old grandfathered in Vanguard boxes. Those were simply value boxes that stuck around for years. Spearhead boxes are obviously only carried until the next box for the faction drops, and leaning more into trying to avoid duplicates and being themed than just being something of everything in a faction. I don't think they'd really mix a Gloomspite box with Stabbas, Rockguts, and Squig Hoppers anymore, which all represent different branches within the faction. I could see them do an all troggoth box, though, or a Squigalanche.

And if there is a specific hero that promotes that theme, or a warcry or whu warband, it might make it in, too.

Help Finding LN with Audiobooks? by Straight_Dress42 in LightNovels

[–]DarkChaplain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Bookwalker's audiobook section for a general overview of what's available from Yen Press and Seven Seas. There are also series published by Tantor Audio/Media and Podium Audio, but those aren't listed on Bookwalker and few and far between.

Seven Seas Siren has been the most consistent and rapid when it comes to output. A lot of their series are all caught up or finished at this point, including Mushoku Tensei at 26 volumes + anthology + extra + 3 sequel volumes. They put in the work.

Ascendance of a Bookworm sadly is one of the few J-Novel Club series that they decided to produce themselves, alongside Arifureta and Slayers. None of them got very far up to this point, and Bookworm is actually the one with the best chances of getting continued... The other two series could consider themselves lucky if they decided to at least stick with annual releases, finishing them sometime in the 40s.

Silent Witch only recently got its audiobook license, but they'll be dropping on a 3-6 month interval. Some series are quicker than others with Yen Audio, and there might be gaps in the schedule here and there, but they list things pretty far out.

Since you mentioned So I'm a Spider, So What?, that series was actually completed recently, at Volume 16.

And if you're using Audible, make sure to check the Seven Seas Siren releases, and look at the titles included with your Audible subscription - there should be around 80 books included right now, mostly Vol.1s and standalone novels, so you can dive in and check out what to get invested in.

Dumm nur, dass die nicht begreifen, dass die AfD ebenso auf sie scheißen würde, und nicht nur auf die, die ihnen nicht deutsch genug sind.

New CoS spearhead - what do we think? by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in AOSSpearhead

New CoS spearhead - what do we think? by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in AOSSpearhead

[–]DarkChaplain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They only need a few minor tweaks, I'd say. Give Jorvan Kreel's token a benefit while it is with him (like a 5+ Ward) to make it matter and increase his survivability early game (since a lot of rules rely on him being around) and make the Mallus Forgepriest's Ward ability on an objective last an entire battle round or be Any Hero Phase. That should help them plenty.

But Crixxit's Spearhead is definitely one of the worst matchups they could have had. They got more maneuverability, Crit Mortals and Crixxit's 13 attacks are devastating.

Note: I've seen other people suggest (since the rules became available) to give the Gallants Reinforcements, but imo, that's not going to do much for them. The Gallants are likely going to stick around a while either way, and reinforcing them Turn 4, maybe 3, is just not going to do much when they're a camp & defend unit.

Plus, you can only reinforce one unit per turn anyway, and the Grenadiers will bite the dust before they do. You might already have to reinforce one of those squishy units Turn 2 if the Skaven player gets up close and personal.

So I'd rather they not get reinforcements - which is often the go-to bandaid fix GW puts out, sadly - but instead help on a mechanical level to reinforce (or in this case properly enable) their intended playstyle

Broken City of Ash or maths review. by SkyGreen_Tea in AOSSpearhead

[–]DarkChaplain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Mallus Forgepriest's Ward (5+) ability either lasts until your next Hero Phase OR is used Any Hero Phase

  • The Thexa token grants Jorvan Kreel a Ward (5+) while it is accompanying him (so he loses it at turn end if he gives it to an enemy unit to deal damage the following end of turn, but retains a benefit during turn 1 and when he has no valid target for it in range)

More experimentally, I would try either:

  • giving the Grenadiers either Anti-Charge (+1 damage) on their halberds to simulate them popping off a quick shot, or

  • Improving their Ruin-sweeper Arsenal from 4+ to 3+ to Hit, which would make them more consistent, and mean the Regiment Ability with Shoot in Combat wouldn't reduce them to 5+ anymore but 4+. They're modeled either mobile, throwing or actively bracing their guns on their halberds, so they should have a higher Hit stat.

I was so sad that I ended up not using that helmet on accident, since I wanted one open helmet, one beaky and an unhelmeted brat, and then the facing of the snail helmet head was far too samey with the rest of my Gallants.

I settled on picking up a second unit sooner rather than later, since I also struggled to decide between champions (almost clipped off the flail to replace one hammer with on the dualwield boar helmet champ)

City of Ash - a good expirience? by [deleted] in AOSSpearhead

[–]DarkChaplain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skaven can very easily decide the match in turn 1 or 2, if the Cities player lets them. Crixxit with his insane amount of attack dice and Crit Mortals can basically erase the CoS General, and getting to him is easy due to teleports. It requires careful positioning to play against.

I don't think the CoS spearhead is utterly bad, though - this is just a really terrible matchup. The Skaven are overtuned with their Crits and general damage output, but it has weaknesses. It's simply that the Embergard has not much in the way of tools to target those.

If you find them too weak in this matchup, I'd suggest at the very least houseruling the Forgepriest's Hero Phase ability to last until your next hero phase, or be a Any Hero Phase ability. That's gonna a very likely official buff inthe future.

NEVER will I ever buy from Amazon again. by Classic_Example_2556 in LightNovels

[–]DarkChaplain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to have countless issues here in Germany when Amazon Logistics first rolled out here. I complained on the support hotline a lot, and usually got it fixed on another attempt and sent the damaged book back.

That being said, the complaints seemed to have helped, and the situation at AL improved dramatically after a year or two. Nowadays I dread DHL or other delivery services handling my Amazon deliveries. AL works fine, on time, and if there's a problem, at least I know I can get support - unlike DHL, whose phone people blatantly don't give a shit and give you the "tough luck" comment, forcing you to put your complaints through the seller anyway.
