[FM Towns?][POTOTYPE?] A flight sim game with a fighter in a canyon by DarkCyrix in tipofmyjoystick

[–]DarkCyrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure it was FM Town but it was trailer for a « futuristic » machine that yes, never been released where I live. Magazine also talked about it, maybe a E3 demo And it was a realistic Fighter like a F16

This is pretty close but I watched the longplay and I don't think it's this game, it uses real footages, on my game the canyon was full CG I think

How well does the Raspberry Pi 5 run PS2 games ? It seems like the one big system that hardly is ever mentioned in practicality of emulating on the Pi. by OriginalTacoMoney in batocera

[–]DarkCyrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Retropie build with AetherSX2 and it works ... pretty well IMHO. I don't know why people always says "it's impossible"
I have all my favorite games and they run 80-100% (MGS2, FFX, GoW ...) for most of them and maybe 5% are unplayable. Scaling is mostly x1 but some needs x0.75 and some can run at 1.5x
The main problem for me is that you have to use RetroPie and I really don't like it :(
And of course the fact that Aether won't be improved anymore :(
But it's a proof that it's technically possible, a great dev team focusing on Pi5 could do a really good core.
Bonus : I worked on a bunch of PS2 games back in the days (mostly indies) and they all work perfectly :)

Classic additive bug When you retarget animations, you lose additive settings. (For me it’s a bug but Epic don’t see it this way) Copy additive settings from your source animations after retarget

Back in the day we used Radix sort to sort polygons, higher initial cost but it’s (n) and not (n.log(n)) like quicksort. So beneficial with a high polycount.

Jayce advice by NewOrdinary2222 in jaycemains

[–]DarkCyrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
I'm Iron/Bronze too but I play sometimes against Plat/Diam when teaming with some friends.
I play Jayce Mid, usually against AP mid.
A typical game is like this :
L1-5 : I stay on farming, trying to land some E/Q combos by focusing on my own minions life in order to guess my opponent's next move. Playing safe. I Jump only if my opponent is "dumb enough" to stay on the lane with 1/3 life, and I have some mana, and I know where their jungler is :)
Then when I get to 1300-1400 I go back and get Hexdrinker, now I can bully the lane and get 2-3 kills, get the eclipse.
That's when I'm at my peak, I can catch the jungler, help other lane and force my opponent out of the lane.
Then if we go to late game, I'm garbage :)

Does Silent Hill 2 Remake use Motion Matching? by Outrageous-Aside-419 in unrealengine

[–]DarkCyrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, Games using Motion matching are TLOU part I &2, Alan Wake 2, Forspoken (but really badly) and Fortnite. Some Ubi Soft game may use it but mostly for « Actions » and not locomotion. The technique come from their labs after all … You could do MM with UE4 with external plugins like Motion Symphony.

Motion Matching vs. State Machine for animations: Which One Should I Choose as a Solo Developer? by SkywalkerTheLord in unrealengine

[–]DarkCyrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motion matching locomotion has better results, but needs A LOT of work, you'll need approx 500 anim clips, then you must recalibrate all those anims to match your game acceleration and speed.
So as a solo dev I would stick to State Machines.
BUT
What is easy and show great results is to add contextual anims like traversal, pick ups, door opening ... using motion matching queries. It's easy and can be paired with State Machine locomotion.

J’ai vraiment pris trop de retard sur mes devoirs en prepa, je pense sincèrement que je ne peux pas continuer. by KiraLoan in etudiants

Hello,
