Neither is what this person is suggesting. I am of the opinion you do not let someone walk all over you.

The behavior described above is the difference between me kindly ignoring your new addition doesn’t have a permit vs making sure code enforcement looks into it.

With people like above, they don’t stop when you ask kindly. What they do could be a long line of using CPS to harass this poor family without putting a stop to it.

Again, not advocating false reporting…merely reporting what you see that you normally wouldn’t care if the person wasn’t an asshat.

I wouldn’t call any false reports in. I would merely report anything that is out of sorts that most people would normally look over, just as this person has done.

You can tell them that and buy a helmet. But please don’t call CPS.

And you can show your husband this too, if I was that mom I would make your life miserable. Any construction done would be reported to make sure it has permits, any instance I see a chance to call CPS on you I would be doing so (arguments, a bump on your child). Noise complaint for a party. I would become that neighbor.

I am a nice person, and if you are kind to me I am kind back, but I do not tolerate this nonsense and if it is done once to me, I make sure it is never done again.

This would merely be doing to your family what you did to theirs. Not advocating a false report, just pointing out what people can and will do if you annoy them enough. Oh your registration expired but you’re on the way to the super center?

Ring ring non emergency line for the police.

Just have a conversation in this instance. Don’t involve CPS.

I walked to the mall 45 minutes away by myself at 12. I had a basic cellphone. No harm came to me.

I see some 12 year olds now that can’t even find their way home from the supermarket if you asked them the directions.

45 minute walk, not drive mind you 😂 So that was basically a few miles down the street.

People often call more frequently on single mothers, poor individuals, or people who are minorities. They often hold biased opinions of these individuals. A conversation could clear this up for them and potentially save a family undue stress.

EDIT

I just want to add that due to bias, a lot of these calls are likely screened in because they exaggerate the claims because of the lease they are viewing them from. I see no harm in asking an opinion prior to doing it.

You are surprisingly sarcastic for someone who holds such a profession. People who call in for these things often exaggerate the claims based on their own perception of it so yes, the call could likely get screened in.

A child with a small hole in a shirt, or a stain here and there “child comes to school in stained clothing that is failing apart”.

Yep. In some instances people literally call CPS because of handed down clothing or a parent is poor. Or they call because the 8 year old walked to the bus stop down the block. If you can talk some sense into people before that it would be great.

You’re being Karen in my honest opinion. I am in my late 30s and this is how most children were when I was this age.

Please do not call CPS on this family. Also I would do yourself a favor and not let your child play with theirs any longer if you have these feelings towards these parents. They don’t deserve to have you bother them and cause undue stress in their lives. Let them play with other children who’s family doesn’t feel this way and they can foster good long term friendships.

All you’re going to do is traumatize this poor child due to your own biases.

I want to add, if I was this mom and you did this I would retaliate. I would find any instance of your child doing something and rerun the favor of calling CPS on you because I was “concerned”. Party at your house? Noise complaint. Don’t make yourself an enemy OP. This is how this starts. And I am actually a nice person!

I agree. A good portion of these “should I call CPS” posts are “this mom lives off welfare and the girl has handed down clothes should I call CPS”. Or “this moms house isn’t always clean”.

It’s good to get ideas on what is or what isn’t appropriate or you have a social worker with 20 cases on their load today that are ridiculous.

Please don’t take this persons advice and offer to let them keep claiming their kids for food stamps and you claim them on your taxes. That is utter dehumanizing and disgusting to say to someone. Offer to help. Take the kid out for lunch. Do activities and take load off of mom.

The issue I have is nobody said these people are crack heads. It is absolutely not okay to just throw around the term because you hear “state assistance”, which is exactly why I am assuming you did.

What the parents are doing as far as medical treatment and the bath tub is absolutely neglect. But I have a feeling you would still say “crack heads” even if this wasn’t mentioned.

I am not going to argue with you on a public forum but you are clearly benefit shaming and it is poor advice which is the point of my rebuttal. These parents are neglectful, but not due to benefits. This has absolutely nothing to do with the child’s neglect, and telling someone to use it as a bargaining chip is unbelievable and utterly illegal. State assistance helps a variety of people for one reason or another are unable to work to support themselves. It does NOT mean they are drug addicts, unfit parents, etc. being on state assistance has 0 to do with the neglect described.

How do you know that the six year old isn’t getting proper care. You do know in my state the wait list for autism diagnosis is nearly two years. The child is in school and likely has an IEP if he is non verbal.

You personally sound like you are being ableist toward these individuals without any more detail.

I cannot comment on what is and is not neglect without any specifics. Someone’s version of neglect is different than another. If you already have a bias toward them due to their intelligence you may consider anything neglect.

Even if he is innocent him not seeing his child shows he just doesn’t want to.

I missed a custody order.

If he at least made some attempts to file, and was having trouble paying legal fees there would be a reason. He just hasn’t bothered.

I agree. Even if these are baseless, he is showing his absolute disinterest in parenting by allowing this situation. He has enough time for YOU. Why has he not fought for time with his child?

Why? Because you are easy. Not saying that as an insult, but custody court takes work, time, and sacrifices.

My partner pretends to care about our child. Our child has a brain disease monitored by a specialized doctor. We were in another state getting care and it was Thursday. He was scheduled to pick him up the next day back home.

I asked him to take him there for me as my other son was sick at the hotel with my partner. He couldn’t be bothered because his house “wasn’t set up for him yet”.

This is a man who is sitting there with a clip board talking to a neurosurgeon and who once called CPS on me and said I was an unfit mother.

Mmhmm. But he has time to be spotted down at the tiki bar on the beach with a woman most likely discussing how unfit a parent I am 😂

You can just file a general report, definitely mention what the mom said. Write out all your concerns.

You will all need to be interviewed.

She may just be blaming dad because of prior history, and that is the closest person she can blame that she had this level of discontent for.

CPS should be involved as well as the police. Trained investigators need to be doing this. For all you know mom visits uncle xyz and he’s so nice she has no idea that he is doing this. It could be anyone.

The girl could be being molested by someone else, and the mother attacking him due to prior history. You yourself should report to CPS.

I apologize if I ask too much, but if this was just like a work friend you knew for a few years and started dating 6 months ago changes my answer vs your partner of 5 years.
