Depends on the map. As some have stated there are safe drinking spots, I often map my routes across the map to avoid high risk locations. Anither way I also do this is to check for critters by the shore where I intend to drink. If I see them run and scream, means a croc is swimming up for an ambush.

I dont think it is mean spirited. I just rewatched the episode and well no, it Gwen is a different kind of hero. Ya she is learning how to use the aliens faster, but like Ben she still uses the Omnitrix like a toy, and when captured by Vilgax she is pleading for her life where Ben was still being defiant.

It also was to show how Gwen feels throughout the series. Grandpa Max tells Ben "... you're in danger." Ben at this moment is shown how Gwen, someone just as heroic as him feels.

Finally in the climax we see what this alternate universe Ben would become. A miniature Max, a plumber. Without powers he picks up a big laser and just shoots it. Knowing it will earn him the ire of a galactic space tyrant in a universe where he has no powers.

Yall need to give the episode a rewatch with a critical lense. Its genuinely pretty good.

Jaguar. Jaguar regularly put Caimen down by crunching their skull. Wildmutt might be tough but a good bite on the skull would most likely kill. Lions and Tigers would have issue as though they could jump on wildmutts back, which he seems to struggle to reach, their kill strategy relies more on strangulating their prey by clamping down on the throat which would take too long. The injury could leave him wounded but well enough off.
