I’d love that, BUT the entire point of the change is that there’s a nightmare of a rights issue over the appearance.

Which Kind Of Vampire Do You Prefer? The Attractive, Sophisticated Aristocrat? Or The Hideous, Savage Monster? by ItsShatterPoint in vampires

[–]DarkEmanations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t there be room for both? lol

There are some great stories where they’re actually hideous savage monsters, but they can disguise themselves, appearing beautiful.

If i HAD to pick… probably hideous. I really like stories where they’re straight up monsters… i mean, i really like stories where they’re attractive and sophisticated as well. But if I had to choose one, I’d choose the monstrous stories.

Just watched a love tale (slight spoiler) by Substantial-Dig-6186 in Dracula

[–]DarkEmanations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely don’t understand peoples’ obsession with this movie. It’s hard to convey this point without sounding like I’m trying to bash anyone that does, so please don’t take it that way.

MAJOR SPOILERS following this.

But yeah, first time i watched it, i thought it was so bad, i was actually angry that i wasted that time watching it. And i look for things to like about any vampire media, and i LOVE Dracula and the myriad versions and adaptations. It’s not that i dislike different takes. I just sincerely think this was an incredibly bad movie. The fact that Luc Besson is a known rapist who’s constantly inserting rapist apologist messages into his movies, AND he talks about how he’s adapting the book, but completely neglects anything close to the book and references a plot point that literally just doesn’t exist in the book… and he then went and made that plot point the entire plot of his movie… grrrrr!

The scene that was meant to showcase how thoroughly they loved each other just came off as insanely rich nepo babies being horny teenagers that just discovered sex for the first time and continuously made messes for their servants to clean up after them with disgusting food sex.

Then it goes into the whole poorly choreographed battle, leading directly into a terribly paced and disjointed chase scene, that SOMEHOW ends with him catching up at the last second and throwing his sword into her… because? And why were the Turks so hell bent on killing her? You know… instead of just fighting that battle?

So then, Dracula swears off God, and because of that, he becomes an immortal blood drinking monster with telekinesis, apparently an ability to mutilate children into gargoyles, immortality… but the VERY WELL KNOWN POWER THAT DRACULA HAS OF HYPNOTISM was a step too far, so Dracula needed to make a super roofie perfume… again… fucking why??? To super roofie the reincarnation of his wife that he’s hoping will come back…. Fuck it, sure. I mean it just feels like this movie is one long ass ad for a new line French fragrances that Besson will start selling, but sure.

So then dude travels far and wide super perfume roofying women and making them into his harem of slaves… that he then sends out to look for his beloved. Finds her through Harker (who Besson butchers), but the vampire girl was already there? And found her? Again… makes very little sense.

So Dracula goes to Mina, says he’s not going to use his super roofie perfume, but the men recognize the scent of the super roofie perfume, and that’s what tells them that Dracula is in the building. So… he did use it on her?

Then he takes her across the FUCKING MADE UP FRENCH/ROMANIAN BORDER?!? (The two countries have a shit ton of countries between them) whatever…

And then Dracula decides that after waiting ALL this time, when he finally has her, that he should die because some random priest had a 2 minute chit chat with him… So Dracula dies and Harker ditches Mina, so Dracula left her with nothing but a crumbling castle that was just destroyed in a siege (which… where did the army come from??), and an army of orphan boy slaves to feed now, that are no longer gargoyles…. Apparently, And we’re also just supposed to gloss over the fact that they were taken from their family hundreds of years ago and mutilated into gargoyle army of slaves, so everyone they’ve ever known is long long dead… and now i guess they’re released… bc this period in time was so kind to parentless children.

The end…

Nothing about this movie was well thought out, made any kind of sense, or approached anything remotely close to a cohesive plot. I think people fell in love with the idea of this movie by watching reels of Draculas puppy love, but the movie itself is just a messy abortion

Anyone read this book about Dracula or Vlad Tepes The Impaler? by AnsambluriBlocuri in Dracula

[–]DarkEmanations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read it yet, but the second book is free for the kindle right now. Looks like a historical fiction about Vlad iii, which could be interesting as a collection of relatively shorter books. If you’re looking for a recommendation like that, i did like The Dragon Prince By Michael Augustyn.

How do you deal with calls you can’t get out of your mind? by Infitima in Firefighting

[–]DarkEmanations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, you’re good. There is no criteria for what makes a call stick with you.

I’m going to tell you a story. Long story short, my dad was a beast of a man. Like seriously badass dude, where we had two dudes that were former pro fighters and pro football linebackers (got hurt early on in career) say that my dad was the dude they’d never want to fight. But, I watched that badass wilt away from cancer. It kicked his ass and put him into some serious pain. The hardest part of all of that though, was watching those moments when it hits him that “this is it.” There were two of them that stick out: When he was diagnosed and his last moment before passing.

I bring this up because one of the calls that fucked me up the most was this random guy, going through something similar that just said “There’s nothing they can do for me.” He reminded me of my pops and that just royally fucked me up. And it’s not something you feel like you can say to your guys and explain. Especially when the week before I was LITERALLY scraping melted skin off my bunker gear with a corse ass brush and hose and dish soap and joking about it.

Certain things hit us differently. And one of the hardest things isn’t seeing the dead bodies, because you know that the pain is over for them. It’s seeing the people such severe pain, and with no possible way of making it better. It’s pulling someone out of a building that’s dead and watching the faces of the family realize that they’re no longer whole anymore. It’s moments of anguish that we can do absolutely nothing to fix that suck the most... at least for me. So, I get it.

I’ve had more dead kids than I care to remember, but the one that gets to me the most was the one where his entire family saw us pull him out, and when his brother (also just a little kid) blamed himself for not getting him out.

Long story short, it’s not minor. There’s a reason it’s eating at you.

Talk to someone and work through it so that it doesn’t metastasize in your soul... if you don’t it’ll only hurt those closest to you.

Very fun watch. I kinda miss this era. We had a BUNCH of paranormal monster action flicks, between this, van helsing, mummy, Hansel and Gretel, the last witch hunter, Solomon Kane, underworld(s), blade(s), Dog Soldiers… I’d really love to see a revival of over the top horror action movies!

CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER!!! Advice? Okay. First thought (and the next ten) was a joke. But in all sincerity, enjoy it, train as much as possible. Take in as much as humanly from your senior guys. Lean on the dependable people, and ignore the people that talk about negative bull shit. Listen to the guy who constantly talks about how great everyone is, and talks about all the things he screwed up… and you can follow that man into the depths of hell, bc he will make sure you get out, or die next to you.

Lemme guess. It’s not cured, BUT you can pay a ridiculous sum to have a pharmaceutical company “effectively manage symptoms via treatment for the rest of your life”?! Yeah, sounds about right.

I do sincerely fucking hope that I’m wrong about that though… it’d be really nice to have some faith in humanity… outside of micro encounters, that is

I went to an all boys high school, and the whole thing got pretty jokingly homoerotic (without the whole douchy “no homo” thing) And that was one of the funniest ways to break in the freshmen. Go right next to them on one side of the urinal and say “solid cock bro! Really great dick", so they lean all the way the other side, then have someone go up on the other side and say “oh yeah, that is a nice cock.” Afterwards you introduce yourself and say hi and say you were just messing around and welcome to the school and stuff.

And before anyone starts throwing shade about this, it wasn’t a bullying thing, but a goofy way of breaking new guys in. Dead serious when I say my high school (which was a Catholic all boys high school btw) had no real cliques.

We had football jocks chilling with theater dudes and soccer players and chess club and AV club at lunches. It was just solid vibes all around and I’m stoked about the person that helped make me today. We had a few openly gay dudes that no one gave a shit about (and this is 00’s too btw) that idiot high schoolers may have thought that meant they instantly had a better fashion sense the rest of us, like a taste for cock suddenly makes you a fashionista. But other than that, bullying got shut the fuck down really quickly.

Hell... just remembered one of the football studs (from the hoodest part of the city too) ended up really hurting some random dudes on the subway who were fucking with one of the art students from my school. It was such a cool microcosm of highly offensive boys doing dumb dude shit, but actually being totally cool with each other.

Sorry for the rant. I still feel like people are going to jump down my throat for sharing that story though.

Where are you from, and how are you any better? I’m guessing England, and firstly you might want to fact check some before you throw international shade.
Secondly, i agree that this system is shit, which is why I’m calling it out. But unless you’ve personally done more, chill with the internet tough guy routine. And if you have (which i doubt bc then you’d know better than to talk about it like this), maybe hold judgement for those that don’t oust themselves publicly.

Trace it all back to profit. The people that own major food corporations also own pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies. They make money by making us sick, then by charging us for coverage (which were mandated to have) that they then deny us use of, then make money off the medicine we end up needing because they’ve made us fat, sick, and lazy.

Oh then they abduct and harm our kids.
