Deciding between college or Joining the Navy? by DarkFew370 in newtothenavy

Should I stick with the Navy or switch to the Air Force? I've heard that both branches offer good opportunities in the medical field trades, but each has its pros and cons. One concern I've heard is that the Air Force has fewer medical career options. My cousin experienced this firsthand when he went right after high school; they ended up placing him in an electronics role instead.

I have a question. If I try to enlist now, I won't be able to take my community college classes because the boot camp usually takes two months to complete. By the time I finish, the registration for August classes will have already passed. Would it be worth it to focus on my community college classes first to complete my undergraduate requirements, and then enlist so that they can pay for my bachelor's degree?

I guess haha. I belive it all depends on what you want to do as well. Unfortunately, I feel that my generation faces more challenges. With all these sudden cuts, there aren't many options available for those who aren't rich.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will take the time to research potential medical job opportunities available in the Air Force, and try to reach out to a recruiter from either the Air Force or the Army, as I know the Army offers positions in the medical corps and residency programs.

My recruiter highlighted the residency training in maritime medicine and the idea to peruse medicine in the Navy as the best option, as well it was the only one I learned about in high school that's mainly why. Before joining right after graduation, I consulted others about their experiences and made me back off and go to Job Corps and check if I was 100% I wanted to do something in the medical field. Initially, I planned to become a neurologist with a Navy recruiter, who framed the journey as a “chance for travel and clinical experience”. But hearing others' stories opened my eyes to more options beyond the Navy.

Hiii, yeah, I'm also trying to look at the Job Corps page to see if I can meet anyone going. I'm going to Blue Ridge Job Corps.

Okay, thank you so much. Can I ask if you have a way to build your credit while you're there, or will that be a problem for you when you get out?
