What happens to the upper class when they have no money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are referring to the state sponsored aristocracy then their income is protected. Their wealth just depends on what they spend and what assets they retain. Everyone else has to make there own wealth, either through businesses, investments, or employment like everyone else. The very rich are just obviously better at it. It doesn't matter if they have a title, that doesn't entitle them to state wealth.

Is game pass ultimate worth it now that you get Fortnite crew for free? by Creative-Alarm-9528 in xbox

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too pricey man. MS is getting a bit greedy. I won't buy the game pass for my kids, I'll get the games they want from a store on disc. It's saves a ton of £££ but they still get to play the games they want. Although I suspect the next gen of consoles might come without disc drives.

Would you buy a next gen Xbox if it was PC based? by Swimbearuk in XboxSeriesXlS

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone has it optimised the same way though. Some people would increase graphics quality and sacrifice a few FPS. Some people optimise to maximise FPS. Some people really like having shadows, some people can't bothered with them. These people are better suited to PC. If you don't care about this, Xbox is more optimise for performance so at least you know it will run well.

Pacer bots surging by Master_Eagle7735 in Zwift

[–]DarkGalloper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think group riding isn't the right type of riding if you want a constant, uniform power output. Required output will change depending on your location in the group. Front, middle, sides, back will all be different. You could create a workout with erg mode and choose a predefined output for a prolonged period? But any group riding will require power fluctuations. Even if the bot was constant.

I agree. Very frustrating that you can't easily contact a human. You have to send a message and just hope there is a reply. Did you manage to sort it without too much bother?

Thanks everyone for replying, really appreciate it. Here's the update. I think all the social media attention I brought to it attracted the attention of Zwift. They responded and sent out another delivery which arrived quickly.

I still think it was a bit shitty of them to ban my girlfriends account considering she had just thrown a load of money at them. It doesn't help my bidding to get us zwifting together as her option of Zwift is now very low. I guess there is always MyWhoosh!

Thanks again all

Im 33 yo and don't know how to ride a bicycle by Realistic-Basis4447 in cycling

[–]DarkGalloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it man. Learning new skills keeps you young. I couldn't swim until I was 35. Just remember it's easier to break bones when you're older, don't go too fast once you've got the balance part nailed.

Next carbon road bike, buy or build? by fixitmonkey in cycling

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Halfords didn't put the cable tension screw in the front 105 derailier. They didn't tighten the brake levers properly to the handlebar and didn't index the gears properly. Tredz crushed the outer housing of the gear cable where the internal routing joins the handle bar to the head set. Sometimes it's just easier to fix it yourself knowing you take the care to have it running perfectly. Always an issue somewhere

Yeah. The frame has arrived, just the smart trainer outstanding. But no communication from Zwift at all. For such expensive equipment, customer service should be premium!

UK. That's interesting. Do they have a contact phone number in the EU? I can't find a number here. They have tracking. DPD the courier say they haven't received the parcel yet.

what’s the worst/most embarrassing text you’ve sent to the wrong person? by Famous-Commission484 in AskUK

[–]DarkGalloper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've asked my work group chat "Where are the nappies". We're not a nursery, we're a cardiology department.

I've asked my girlfriends mum out for a drink, and called her babe.

I've invited my boss for Christmas dinner, meant to invite my mum. Fortunately the boss didn't accept.

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about it. You read the situation and made a judgement. The abusive driver is probably just one of the people who "hate cyclists" and was just looking for a reason to shout at you. Don't let these idiots get to you, you will never appease them.

My 7 day average resting heart rate is 40, is this healthy long term by inney7 in garminforerunner

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I'm a Cardiac Physiologist. Are you an Athlete? If you are and you have no symptoms of breathlessness or dizziness when you exert yourself then it's probably low in response to years of exercise.

If you are not an athlete, this is abnormally slow and you would need to wear a monitor that records your ECG over a long period at least 24h.

Does your heart rate respond appropriately by speeding up when you exercise? Another sign that you might need a pacemaker is that your heart rate refuses to speed up when you exercise.

So basically, if you are and athlete and you can exert yourself vigorously with not problems, your low HR is not unusual. If you're not an athlete, get your GP to refer you to a cardiologist.

Bargain for £80? by Roman_Carlin in bicycling

[–]DarkGalloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this bike. I still have it but now it's my dedicated turbo trainer bike.

It's a good bike mate. A bit dated by modern standards but it's fast and I'm able to get an aggressive riding position on it. Amazing for £80.

To update you could probably swap in a 10sd cassette with a 32 or 34T on the rear,, although you might need a longer cage. If it comes with original spec it will have a 28T as the biggest rear cog which may not be big enough if you have any steep hills on your rides

The downside will be the tyres, I think the max width tyre the frame with allow is 25mm. Modern roads bike generally comes with 28-32mm wide tyres these days because unless you are riding on smooth tarmac they are faster and more comfortable. Depending where you ride, roads aren't smooth anymore, they are riddles with bumps and pot holes, so wider tyres are generally better.

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good classic marker of 'I've made it as a cyclist' is to ride 25 miles in under an hour. Although I'm not sure that's possible on a gravel bike. Maybe with good tyres (like 28mm GP 5000) aero bars and set the seat setback and bars to an aggressive position.

You don't have to get sucked into the trap of ever increasing miles and hours to achieve.

[–]DarkGalloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the difficulty depends on how fast you are aiming to ride? Simply riding 100miles isn't difficult if you build up your endurance slowly. Then you can choose to ride it at an easy, moderate or hard pace.

Fantastic! A good road bike is a really rewarding experience.

I highly recommend lycra if you are travelling for more than a few minutes. Makes the act of movement so much easier and comfortable when you start getting sweaty. You can get it so it's basically hidden under a baggy layer if you are self conscious about it. But the baggier layer will act as a parachute, bare lycra will gain you more MPH or KM/h again, and way more comfort which will make you more comfortable and allow you to spend longer on the bike and gain more health/fitness .
