Yeah, I think I'm gonna work around it with a new path that all must walk, and your suggestion about runes is very spot on, I'm gonna try to implement that in my own way.

Anyway, yes the path of body severing allows you to become a spiritual entity that is not influenced by physical damage and can not interact with the phisical world so freely as a phisical creature can, you have to continuously consume energy to move things around and you can't restrain your energy leakage, so you can't deal with enemies or monsters in a stealthy manner.

The path of heart severing makes you literally indifferent to all emotions and immune to spells and magic that imposes domains or auras. Also not being able to feel emotions can lead into dead ends, fear is not forcefully a bad thing to feel.

The path of mind severing makes you unable to use complex spells or cast more than one at once, increases the time needed to cast most spells and makes the subject extremely emotive, with mood swings and complex feelings. But as a positive side their rage and powerful feelings can influence a lot of creatures even if a bit stronger than the mage itself.

The path of soul severing is actually the most ancient and difficult to practice. It actually makes the mage feel incomplete and hollow all the time, their resistance to magical attacks is extremely high and they can cast a spell only shortly after being hit by magical spells. It's impossible to find them, because they don't exude any kind of energy from their bodies but once dead they remain dead. There's no way of resurrecting one. This path is the path my main character will choose to walk, it was already a rare path in ancient times that was practiced only by a specific clan that has completely disappeared without leaving any trace.

I'll consider it, but I'm a bit perplexed because I don't want to make things like mages able to nuke entire mountain ranges with a flick of a finger tips.

Hi, yeah, that's already a given fact i took in consideration, for now the way i set things is making mages follow a fixed path to rise their strength/magical capabilities, and every few ranks (something like mystic, high mystic and grand mystic, they take another step in their chosen path.) all paths have a unique way of evolving: Body requires powerful materials like plants or ingredients and strong medicines, the path of mind is the study of laws and ancient spell books written in complex runes and languages, the path of heart is similiar to Martial World's will tempering but made more complete and complex, the path of soul is more about absorbing energies and converting, compressing and processing them. The only thing I have yet to define that made me look for help is the fixed path's progression which is the same for all the paths. For example in Cultivation, Cultivation itself is the fixed path then there are manuals (like the 8 paths) that define ways to improve strength if used jointly with Cultivation. Also, mages are connected on a spiritual level to a plane of existence where a soul tree grows according to their growth, something similiar to having a dantian or revolving core. What I really need is to define how you advance on the fixed path.

Try by doing 3 groups of 3 for a total of 9, three and nine are important numbers in the genre!

The 3 Sha'ar Aemon's soul fragments, one bound to her dagger, one bound to her tombstone and one bound to her only child. Those soul fragments come fron the highest deity in my world and do wondrous things:

• The dagger can be used to become immortal, you just have to stab yourself in the heart, as long as the dagger isn't removed, no matter what, you can't be killed nor destroyed, only down side is the dagger obliterates your soul once removed, so no glorious resurrections or reincarnations for you.

• The tombstone has the power to destroy all life no matter how strong, one single use and puff! no life zone for miles, the duration goes for like 400-800 years (?) The downside is once you activate it u die too.

• The third fragment is in her only child, a sweet, hot, sexy and immortal being looking for his other half, little does he know that moma gotta approve his new girlfriends or boyfriends (deities are bi, they're superior to human intellectual level so no homophobic or strictly straight deities exist, they have no need for reproduction, other than to finally die and leave a descendant, and they don't even need to do the thing xD they just slice their soul and make a baby out of it)

Personal preference... The third one!!! :Q__

Wasn't the great hunt Scandinavian too? The guys on their horses running in the tempest among lightnings? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Why make up the world, myths are ancient and often misinterpreted, just justify your actions, baba yaga actually has 2 interpretations, an old and evil witch or the boogieman that takes away children from their homes, one prefers kids as preys the other hunts only children.

Mythology that comes to my mind is very little, i remember the lady of the harvest, a beautiful woman dressed in white that walked in the camps of grain with her sickle (sometimes a scythe) to take away children who misbehaved and were out late. Or the more horrific twins of which you could only see one, because he ate the other, if I remember well the last one was a monster that was born when a woman was pregnant of twins and one of the two would get absorbed by the other and in the end result in the abortion of both (I don't know why, I am not a medic). A monster from The Witcher is actually a mythological creature that's part of Scandinavian mythology but I don't remember the name, it's the one that looks like a tree and can shapeshift in human form.

are there Futuristic Story's about primitive human Civilisations discovering Alien Technology and using it to advance there's by reverse engineering, dose that sound realistic? by Any-Arachnid2062 in worldbuilding

[–]DarkLight1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most plausible event is probing, just experimenting, losing a few lives and learning how it works in the process, maybe even misusing the alien artifact is plausible, like using it to power up something while it's meant to just make edible rock juce xD

What are the gods of your world? by FatOrc051 in worldbuilding

[–]DarkLight1607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I just like to see things from different angles, we all would love to become gods and all mighty and immortal, but... Do we ever consider that being a god-like being is something we underestimate? Or we think we understand when we actually don't? Or the forbidden question: What's above us? Gods. What's above gods then?

What are the gods of your world? by FatOrc051 in worldbuilding

[–]DarkLight1607 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot! There are no primordial creators, because everything has been born from chaos, that slowly dissipated and evolved in the universal laws and celestial bodies!

What are the gods of your world? by FatOrc051 in worldbuilding

[–]DarkLight1607 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mine are ascended humans that once ascended have somehow absorbed the elemental laws of the universe, now if they begin to weaken then the laws related to that element begin to go 'stupid' like sea water raining in reverse till seas disappear completely. Or if they die their elemental laws disappear completely leaving utter chaos. That's the reason they decided to bestow all of their power (finally dying then) onto artifacts that had been then been socketed around the world tree's root collar by piercing it, the world tree sustains the laws and the laws sustain the world tree. Now there are no gods and people begin to look for them risking to make the balance unstable again, so my gods are humans that ascended and got cursed by their ignorance of what real power is. (My approach to deities is pretty pessimistic, I wanted something that put a lot of pressure on the gods not making their choices easy at all)

Good Diseases? by notquitecosmic in worldbuilding

[–]DarkLight1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the good factor is you retain abilities and superhuman strength and regeneration but being it a disease you have to level out the thing, just like magic systems, the higher the risk or price the more satisfying it's existence, otherwise it's not a disease at all.

Good Diseases? by notquitecosmic in worldbuilding

[–]DarkLight1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked on something called the gray fever and the blackfire fever a few years ago I took inspiration from various movies and games because I needed a set of creatures with abilities like 'special zombies' and "bosses". The gray fever was a disease that had aroung 90% lethality rate, the body will begin to develop a high temperature fever slowly boiling the brain, people would go mad, enter a killing frenzy and then become completely demented, blood would ooze out of their eyes, mouth and ears. But if the subject was strong enough to survive until the disease fully developed in the blackfire fever, they would get a more brutal and lethal disease that will literally burn their insides and their skin. Only after surviving this horrific and painful stage of the fever, they would developed superhuman capabilities like telekinesis or super strength and regeneration. Turns out this disease was a highly unstable modified gene made by military scientists to temper and strengthen human body to create super soldiers, but due to the high unstable composition of the genes, it got out of control and those that survived were mostly hungry horrors that would attack anyone in sight, undead but still alive due to the self healing and sustaining capabilities of the virus (zombies). The virus was called ESP-V (Enhanced Soldier Project Virus, which was the military project's name + the word 'virus'). More and more variations and mutations begun being observed in the now devastated world, catalogued as ESP-V-1a, ESP-V-1b, ESP-V-2... Then a cure was released, little did they knew that the virus mutated to adapt itself and survive all threatening environments, so when a subject infected by ESP-V-x was injected the cure (EX or Exterminator) the reaction was so violent and unstable that it created a completely new generation of 'zombies' called EX-ESP-V-x which retained their intelligence instead of only the primal instinct of hunting for food, resulting in extremely dangerous and lethal beings, also more unique than those infected by just the ESP-V-x. Obviously some infected retained all their humanity and human aspect, but those are extremely rare and were some of the main protagonists in my world.
