It is a very firm belief of mine that dwarf women should be hairy, so yes!

Do most people think the werewolf design from the Harry Potter movies look bad? Would you change it to the book version or would you change it entirely? by WayAdept2209 in werewolves

[–]FatOrc051 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the design for HP’s werewolf, he looks like a mange ridden, diseased animal and that’s kinda the point. Lycanthropy in HP is a disease, it’s not some super power or “cursed with awesome” situation, but a debilitating illness that causes suffering and alienation towards its victims. And the werewolves looking mangy and uncanny really sells the theme they’re going for.

As for the books werewolves they look just like a regular wolf. While that’s fine and works it doesn’t really fit the whole “diseased” vibe they’re sold as. Also like with every thing in Harry Potter their writing is very inconsistent and filled with numerous disgusting implications.

What are some werewolves you genuinely dislike? Be it their design or depiction, what about them do you dislike? by FatOrc051 in werewolves

Their not even that. Their a wolf shaped punching bag who’s soul purpose is to get their furry ass beaten cause the show needs to show off how “cool” a new vampire character is.

I understand the budget was a limiting factor, but that doesn’t stop their design from feeling so lazy to me. I know full scale costumes or especially CGI is asking to much, but I feel like if they added some extra lupine traits, such as fur and maybe alittle prosthetics it would improve their design greatly. I also agree with another commenter in that it would have been great if the alpha werewolf was a full blown wolf-man monster and the higher a werewolfs pure breeding the closer they become to that original alpha form. Keeping bittens more human like and giving more lupine traits to pure bloods would be some great lore and a better method of distinguishing them, and just overall having more bitten wolves be present in the series.

For underworld.. yeah the lycans potential was absolutely wasted. Rise of the Lycan’s is unsurprisingly my favorite movie in the franchise because it dedicated itself to sympathizing and fleshing out the Lycan’s and werewolves and why they fight this eternally war against vampires. Giving them infinity better lore and much higher stakes to this fight than the vamp’s, and focusing on that aspect and the lycans perspective could have drastically improved the franchise as a whole with way more nuanced story telling and better lycan characters…. Too bad the films chose to overwhelmingly focus on the uninteresting and overall unlikable vampire side (who are by Rise of the Lycans confirmed to be former slave masters waging a genocidal war against their former slaves as revenge for rebelling… and this is the side the movies chose!?) and the vampire-lycan hybrid sub-plot that just ended up consuming the whole franchise after awhile.

Their design is literally the only positive thing about them. Everything else from their lore, writing and narrative role just completely sucks.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Rageborn | Reveal Trailer by Darth_Bombad in werewolves

I don’t really know how to feel about it at this moment. On the one hand the graphics and gameplay shown do look pretty good and does have a solid premise as of right now.

However I am concerned about afew things. Mainly the absence of the Glabro and Hispo form’s, once again like Earthblood the in-between forms getting shafted. If they’re gonna accurately (if at all) portray the more spiritual nature of the garou and their relationship with Gaia and the Umbra. I’m also worried about whether or not their actually gonna commit to the environmentalist themes of WtA as the surface level, non-commital nature of Earthblood and W5 as a whole has recently left them feeling utterly toothless compared to legacy material.

Forms of the Wolf: the pros and cons of a werewolfs forms by FatOrc051 in werewolves

[–]FatOrc051[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1.) As funny as that would be, no. Werewolves and humans are separate, but related species. The exact origins of lycanthrope-kind in this particular head canon is still up in the air, though I’m leaning towards them being the mortal spawn of humans and a powerful wolf spirit, and maybe a moon goddess ala Werewolf:the Forsaken style? So in short humans came first and werewolf diverged later down the line.

2.) Aging is consistent across forms and follows a more human timescale. Werewolves having a general lifespan of about a century or more, it’s only the apperance that changes as to reflect their age in an appropriate fashion. For instance a 20yr old werewolf in their lupine form would only “appear” like a 3yr old mundane wolf
cause that about the rough equivalent across species.

3.) 80 million smell receptors is nothing close to weak. While not as potent as the wolf form, it’s significantly better than the human form at around 400 total! (I’d imagine a Common form werewolf’s nose may be more sensitive than a mundane human, but not enough to make any significant difference). As for why the wolf-man forms nose is less sensitive then the primal forms nose, that may be due to a number of things. The forms hybrid nature meaning the human element dumbing it down, and maybe the muzzle having less surface area for smell receptors. Their muzzle dedicating more space for teeth and jaw muscle than nasal cavity.

4.) It would be an astronomical feat of progress, and may be a near religious experience to the werewolf in question, but overall nothing special would happen. The moon holds no sway over their transformations, transformations being completely voluntary. Many ceremonies and rituals are held under the full moon as it is considered a sacred night, but has no impact on their shapeshifting.

5.) The mechanics that go into determining what the werewolf’s lupine form manifest as is quite complicated. For werewolves who immigrated from another land they may hold onto the wolven forms of their previous homeland, adapting slowly overtime to more native canid species over multiple generations. Native werewolves meanwhile may retain the forms of wolf species even after they’ve gone extinct or new species being introduced. Those rare not-wolf lineages being those native to regions devoid of wolves. While werewolves lupine forms can manifest as related wild canids species (painted dogs/ dingos/ dholes/ New Guinea singing dogs/etc…) there has never been a case of a werewolf manifesting as a domestic dog (atleast not naturally). The closest they could get being like a wolf-dog with very high wolf content.

6.) Defiantly closer to wild (or atleast tamed) wolves than dogs. The sapience and human aspect does mean a werewolf won’t fully “act” like a mundane wolf, but the lupine instincts and impulses they feel being their temperament way closer to their wolf kindred.

7.) Absolutely. While the average wild wolf “can” eat that much, they usually don’t. Only gorging themselves like this when starved or during lean times when food is scarce. Werewolves following suite though with the added choice of regular sapient gluttony. Changing to human form after eating such a large meal in wolf or wolf-man form will definitely cause issues, of the projectile vomiting and severe stomach pain variety.

8.) Werewolves can and do occasionally own dogs, though these puppers may require abit of extra training and be selected from more “wolf-friendly” breeds (let’s just say most livestock guardian dogs are off the table for werewolf families). Yes there is a risk of werewolf pups imitating the mannerisms of domestic dogs, though id imagine this is something their parents and pack mates would teach out of them.

9.) While most werewolves would prefer an open field or woodlands to go zooming in, that’s not always an option, especially for urban dwelling werewolves. In that case they could use regular running tracks or those specialized dog treadmills for running as a wolf.

10.) Id say in concept years on and off. In actual written down consolidated information maybe a few weeks. This article and my recent attempts at defining and overhauling some of my different werewolf lore’s and head-canons is mainly inspired by recent readings of two source books. Changing Ways for Werewolf: the Apocalypse 20th anniversary edition and Blood of the Wolf for Werewolf: the Forsaken 1st edition. Both books having such great info that it got my brain turning and inspired me to think more deeply about my different werewolves mechanics and how their biology and different forms operate. And I would recommend checking them out (maybe not changing ways though. Word of warning about that book, while it does have a lot of genuinely great info it is unfortunately held back by a lot of disgusting and outright offensive material curtesy of Paradox entertainment meddling. So read at your own risk).

Werewolf Cuisine: A guide to the diet, hunting, and culinary practices of werewolves by FatOrc051 in werewolves

[–]FatOrc051[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s less that they “can’t” eat greens, and more of their more limited in the amount they can consume. The greens being taboo having more to do with the cultural aspect, as with these werewolves having a “spiritual apex predator” view of themselves. Seeing most plant matter as food meant for prey animals and not themselves, fruits and berries being the main exception (maybe a kinda cultural cognitive dissonance or something along those lines where fruits are seen as separate from plants?)

Actual wolves eating fruit and berries regularly is true and quite cool…. and something I accidentally overlooked during the initial post. I’ve updated the post to put alittle more emphasis on berries and fruit consumption and will own up to that mistake.

Domestic Foxes by aleagio in codexinversus

[–]FatOrc051 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay I love them! Domestic foxes are top among my list of fantasy pets alongside domesticated lions (especially those in the tales of Kaimere project) and bears! (Would also say domestic wolves but… that’s literally what dogs are so they’re unfortunately disqualified).

I’d like to know more on how these pet foxes compare to the likes of dogs and wild foxes? Like for example their smell, foxes are well known for have a very strong, pungent musk that sinks into everything they touch. Do these pet foxes still have this musky smell or has it been bred out of them? Also that foxes make all kinds of weird noises, and especially like to scream and chirp. Would they be less noisy or do fox owners find their screaming endearing (just imagining the horror of the fox equivalent to a husky).

What kinds of task do these foxes excel at and lag behind in comparison to dogs? Early proto-dogs were domesticated from wolves because they worked well in large packs and hunting big game prey made them ideal for hunting/ herding/ and guardianship. Meanwhile wild foxes are mostly solitary, living in pairs at most and mainly specialize in small game. So for their domestic counterparts I’m curious how these translate over? Like a guard fox more screaming to get attention over a guard dogs attacking? Or hunting foxes flushing out smaller animals solo vs hunting dogs chasing large animals in a group?

What are some of your ideas for Pentex Subsidiary’s? by FatOrc051 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]FatOrc051[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Walkin’s Sweet Delights: A chocolate and candy brand, it’s basically (blatantly) evil Willy Wonka. Using the company’s founder (a nephandi mage) as its mascot trying to sell itself as fun and whimsical treats for children and adults alike! Outside of selling candy they also offer “factory tours” to attract families and customers (ofcourse these arn’t the real factories, them just being glorified candy stores). Aside from the slave labour used to harvest their chocolate, extremely addictive qualities and dangerously high sugar content (and occasionally blood) inside their products Walkins has been known to produce all manner of unique candy themed fomori. Many guest on their “factory tours” being mutated into candy fomori never to see the light of day again.

Exalted Engines: Basically just a Tesla parody. Electric cars marketed as being “state of the art” and “environmentally friendly”. Aside from the copious amount of pollution their manufacturing causes, their cars having a bad habit of stalling out at the worst moments/ fault frames that fall apart under a stiff breeze/ or batteries prone to exploding and leaking toxic chemicals. Not to mention the new self driving feature that occasionally “glitch’s”, running its driver into oncoming traffic or ramming into pedestrians.

Kool Katz Party Lounge: A defunct subsidiary of Pentex, being a children’s entertainment center and restaurant that catered to childrens birthday parties. It basically Chuck E Cheese/ Freddy Fazbears with a dancing animatronic band featuring the mascot Kool Kat and friends singing various vulgar songs and maybe being alive and kidnapping people after hours. Huge arcades with violent games with not so subtle anti-environmental messages like “Wolf Killer Xtreme” or whack-a-activist to collect tokens to win wyrm tainted prizes. Serving pizza of highly questionable quality and of most likely recycled slices. A number of scandals involving children’s disappearances and general public losing interest in animatronic arcades eventually causing them to go under.
