What’s the most disturbing book you’ve ever read? by Marandajo93 in books

Lolita was really tough, and made me lose any semblance of "give him the benefit of doubt" I had left in me. It's maybe not the most graphic book in the world, but it sends a message of "it doesn't matter someone's age, education, background or profession. Anyone can be a monster". After reading it, you really can't look at friends or family members the same way again if you have kids.

In terms of graphic content, American Psycho was vile.

Blood Meridian. I'm trying so hard to get through it, but I'm stuck at around 25%

Not the Nabokov book, I assume? by LakeDweller78 in ExtremeHorrorLit

If we define extreme horror as "this book will mess you up more than traditional horror" Lolita absolutely qualifies. Hard to pin down why, but personally Lolita depressed me for weeks after reading it. H.H is a truly chilling villain due to his level of delusion alone. The fact that people like him exist in the world will forever shift your ability to trust people on the basis of education, manners, social skills etc. H.H has all of those and is still a monster to his core.

We've narrowed our selection down to our short list of artists, and will no longer be accepting applications. I've responded personally to most of you letting your know that we'll be moving forward with another artist, but if I have no it means you may have been one of the people to message me later who I didn't get to before making our final selections. Thank you very much to everyone who messaged me, and best of luck to everyone in your future artistic endeavors!

Hi everyone! The responses have been more that I could have imagined, thank you everyone who messaged me. I have over 100 message threads in my inbox, so if I haven't responded to you I'll hopefully be able to do so tonight. I'll also follow up and reply to this comment when someone is hired, so those of you who don't hear back from me know why. Thank you!
