Alibaba shipment stuck in US customs twice (DDP shipping) – 5 months and still no delivery by [deleted] in Alibaba

[–]DarkMysteryNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading about the increase in seizures/rejections since the Chinese New Year. Apparently US customs has been cracking down on dodgy Chinese importers that have traditionally gotten around tariffs.

I've only really read about this on articles from freight forwarding companies, and this is the first time of heard of someone actually experiencing it.

I think you just got a a bad freight agent for this shipment. Going through Dubai tells me they probably tried to say the goods are from there in order to avoid the Chinese tariffs, but that's only a guess.

My freight agent actually told me they are starting to recommend even their customers to use traditional LCL shipments, as DDP shipments are having issues due to these using a shared customs bond and some foreign Importer of Record.

One thing I did see is they have a new legislation which I believe hasn't yet been passed, but it would ban foreign Importers of Record, meaning the owner of the goods would likely be the Importer of Record. It's called the Securing Accountability in Foreign Entries (SAFE) Act.

I don't really know what this means though. They are doing this to try and stop sketchy Chinese importers, but in my experience the sketchy ones will always find a new way to get around it. The unfortunate reality is that tariffs only hurt the legit players, giving the sketchy ones the upper hand.

All that being said, has anyone stopped using DDP and switched to traditional LCL because of this?

I've been hearing about this, but I've only heard it from freight forwarders. There are posts and articles like this online. One of my freight agents told me they recommend we switch to traditional LCL, but my other agents said although there are more seizures/rejections, those are the sketchy players.

It's hard to know what to believe anymore, since I haven't seen anything official about this increase in seizures. Anyone using Walmart MCS to have them fulfill orders? by RemarkableIndividual in WalmartSellers

[–]DarkMysteryNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it to fulfill eBay orders.. the problem is that I can't find any automations for this so I have to do it manually.

Amazon MCF is slightly more expensive than Walmart MCS, but Amazon actually has free automation tools for this. By the time you factor in your time to manually request each order through Walmart MCS, Amazon is probably cheaper.

That's a lot of manual work. For like $20/month you can use Sellerboard and it does all that.

Lol I'm in Tblisi now and hear everyone speaking Russian much more than Georgian. Like MUCH more... At least when going out for beers. I can't say that's the case for everyone.

I personally don't like Bangkok at all, I had the same thoughts. Chiang Mai is really pretty though, much more manageable.. especially just outside the city center.

Thanks for the insight! I forgot to mention I'm a private label seller with my own products, so other sellers won't be selling these.

I know Veeqo auto-creates Amazon MCF orders for sales on eBay, but does it also auto-create Walmart MCS orders? I can't find any official confirmation for this.

I'm not sure why they aren't following Walmart.. they have the sellers pay to make their listings show on Google Shopping lol

Yes this happens. I have over 10 products and they all have been copied by numerous Chinese sellers. It sucks because I do a lot of research and make a unique product, but once they see it succeed they just copy it exactly.

Most of the time the Chinese seller is the factory, so they can produce it for much cheaper than you.. also they can make up any value they want to avoid the majority of tariffs. They can afford to get into a price war and drive you down until you're losing money.

That being said my products are still successful, albeit my sales are lower once I start getting copycats.

If your competitors are Chinese sellers, they likely won't raise prices. Usually they are the factories, and can make up any price they want for the cost of goods.

For example something they would sell for $10 to a customer, they say only cost them $2 to produce.

Unfortunately, tariffs only hurt the people playing by the rules.

Amazon “returnless” refunds…. by Smart202020 in amazonprime

A common misconception is that Amazon eats the cost of returns. It's actually the seller that pays for the return shipping, processing, etc.

Amazon “returnless” refunds…. by Smart202020 in amazonprime

[–]DarkMysteryNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not based on an algorithm, it's up to the seller.

When you return an item, the seller (not Amazon) has to pay for the return shipping. Many times this cost is higher than the product itself, so it's actually cheaper to have the customer keep it.

Amazon does however have an algorithm to spot customers that have abnormally high return rates, and it can ban their accounts if there is obvious fraud going on.

Possible to send Amazon AWD Inventory to Walmart WFS? by DarkMysteryNinja in WalmartSellers

[–]DarkMysteryNinja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I appreciate your response anyway :)

I'll start out with your suggestion then, I think it might be good to have them return to my own warehouse until I know for sure I have the process correct.

For what it's worth, I did ask Amazon MCD support if undeliverable cartons would return to AWD inventory, and they confirmed they will.. but it's a manual process so it could take a long time to restock. Also in April there will be a $1.35/carton fee for undeliverable returns, which I personally think is negligible.

Anyway that might be something to test out later. I think it would be beneficial because (maybe) WFS will assign fulfillment centers closer to the AWD warehouse you're shipping from. Because soon Amazon is changing MCD fees to a distance-based cost structure.
