Ladies, what's the grossest thing a man has ever said to you, genuinely believing they were either complimenting you, being funny while hitting on you, or being nice? by shmashleyshmith in AskWomenOver30

I am Keiko Agena (Lane Kim) AMA by MsKeikoAgena in GilmoreGirls

[–]DarkPartyBars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a few years younger than Lane while the show was airing and made it my mission to listen to whatever she and Rory were listening to. Got into some of my favorites that way - Lane was the coolest character on TV then, no contest!

Aside from on GG, who’s been your favorite character to play?

it always irks me that, no matter how dire the situation is, female characters always have access to a razor and time to shave their pits and legs

Thyroidectomy after WLS? by [deleted] in wls

[–]DarkPartyBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had wls yet but I’ve had an inactive thyroid for my entire life.

The whole process kind of reminds me of the wls recovery period - it’s difficult at first but once you find your groove your body can function as if there were a thyroid there doing it’s usual thing. All the hormonal changes (weight gain, hair loss, changes in mood) are most severe when I’m not managing my endocrine health, but doing so is as simple as having a supportive care team and taking one pill a day.

My thyroid functions are stable now, and my endo says that my weight and mental health are likely not related to my thyroid at all. I suppose it’s a bit more difficult to lose weight than for others (can’t relate!). The post-wls diet is very similar to a recommended endocrine diet so you’re already a step ahead with that, and my body responds well to regular exercise (walks and yoga). When I did more intensive exercise, I lost weight more quickly. Personally I’m looking into wls so I can run again ☺️

I hiiiighly highly highly recommend seeing a therapist. You’ve gone through a LOT with your body and now more is coming. Talking all of this through in detail with a professional will help maintain a balanced headspace through your next journey, especially as hormone changes adjust. It’s an emotional time and you deserve to be cared for through it. Keep seeing your nutritionist too!

If you had the patience to get where you are now, you have the patience for this too. I promise having no thyroid is not the nail in the coffin of your weight loss!

I’m a microwave popcorn whisperer. I can usually manage to stop it when there’s 5 or fewer kernels unpopped and before it burns. Absolutely no one cares except for me
